I remember hearing that the 6.4 is tuned for towing/hauling, not for street performance. So I'm not sure it'd give much advantage over the 5.7.

Seems to me, Dodge puts these motors in Challengers and Chargers all week long. All they would have to do is change the pcm to a performance version and add some good gears. You would stomp a 5.7. I know the 6.4 is rated at 485hp, at least for the Challengers and Chargers, but some have been getting 500hp on a dyno with no tune. .

I feel Ford and Chevy had to jump to those larger V8s to compete with the 5.7 Hemi so Ram is still in a good place. It would be nice to have the option of a larger V8 in a non SRT truck but at the same time I think the power in my 14 is more than adequate so it just turns into horsepower wars.

Yea, SRT Grand Cherokee, a dream vehicle of mine. They've had them for quite a few years now. But the big news is Jeep is set to release a Hellcat engined Grand Cherokee... 700+ HP in a Grand Cherokee.... that is absolutely ludicrous and insane.

And I want one more than ever!!!!!!

Call me crazy but what would be the gain of a 6.4 gasser on a half ton other than on a racetrack? IMO that engine is on HD RAMs because it belongs there for HD loads. I can't possibly imagine any other reason someone would want this other than pure bragging rights for people who buy pickups but don't actually use the "truck" part of the words "pickup truck". I'm getting mental images of young guys with 3 pairs of underwear showing above droopy pants, wearing flat brim ball caps sideways driving downtown with vanilla ice blasting through the speakers as the target buyer for a 6.4L hemi in a half ton...

LOL.....The fords are useing the 2.7 eco boost and still beating the hemi everywhere..Just might make a 6.4 squeal to..
I know its a modded engine to some factory spec but the 2017 ford gt with either the 3.5 or 2.7 (dont remember and not the mustang) is up in the 600hp 550 tq range..

The 2.7 ecoboost is a very impressive engine, but the hemi will outrun it. The 2.7 makes all of its power low in the rpms, and then quickly runs out of juice.

then why is it in the Cherokee? Bragging rights? this is America.

the reason i brought this old thread up is that if they put the 6.4 it in , why not a half ton. i understand your point about it being HD, but the answer to all this why this and why that, is "because you can". do i want one, no. i was just wondering why put one in a suv and not a half ton? why put a 707hp motor in a car, cause you can. why use a cummins to get groceries, cause you can.

The SRT Cherokee competes in the luxury SUV market with the Land Rover and X5 and has comparable or better power compared to them with a slightly lower price tag. Another reason you haven't seen a high hp engine in the fleet is because of the EPA fleet fuel economy regulations. Our trucks have a high fuel consumption (relatively compared to the cars) and the EPA has set requirements for fuel economy over an entire sales fleet so if they want to use a 6.4L they need to sell or make a more fuel efficient engine/truck to offset the increased consumption of the 6.4L. Also, HD trucks are not part of that fleet consumption regulation.

There is a very small market for fast trucks, the Lightning, SRT-10, and Typhoons were all low production vehicles compared to their lower hp counterparts.

I can't wait any longer for a factory 6.4L 1500, so I did something about that myself.

Just my 2 cents take on it that's all. I just like to deliver my opinions in a harsh and obnoxious manner
