I bought mine new, and got the exact options I wanted. My needs haven't changed. I liked the looks of my body style more than the new one. The only thing I've not been satisfied with "factory" is the headlamps are too dim.

Have you upgraded your bulbs? Mine came with the premium projectors and although they’re great headlights- the best on any vehicle I’ve ever had the pleasure of owning for stock headlights but the bulbs are as cheap as those Goodyear SRA’s they put on the wheels at the factory. New bulbs later, everything is fine, how it should be.

Every truck I have purchased has been the one I wanted, no regrets on any of them.

#1 I love customizing things to make them exactly what I want. #2 I got the truck I got could afford and wanted (6 cyln 2WD used QC 15 Express) knowing I could add pretty much add any factory options on my own for way less to get exactly what I wanted. In my case thats the 8.4 Carplay deck, leather seats, preimum cluster, load floor and upgraded sound system. I see no reason ( unless you just hate doing your own mods) to pay up to 10x as much for stock options you can add yourself. Usually to get what you want you are forced to buy other options you dont want or need and I didnt want to play that game so I bought the truck that had what I actually needed and had a ton of fun slowly adding all the things I want thanks largely to this forum educating me as to what things are available to add.

They don’t build the truck I want

I’d have bought a 2-door stick shift power wagon if they made one,
But I am happy with the truck I bought as it does actually suit my needs just fine for a daily driver

the reason i dont have the truck i wanted. is because the stupid Chevy dealer near me likes to add a **** ton of over priced extras that they dont include in the AD price.

I did buy exactly what I wanted, plus an extra two packages (tow, bedliner, maybe the audio?). What else I wanted does not come on OEM RAMs to order.

You would think they would make the power wagon with a stick shift option considering what it is, and what most people would most likely buy one for but who knows, maybe it’s because they just don’t even have a manual transmission option for nothing other than the Cummins? I think it’s pretty safe to say, that because the vast majority doesn’t want a stick anymore unless you’re doing some heavy duty towing, that they’re pretty much only going to cater to the bigger crowd. But hey, there’s always the aftermarket. An expensive route to get what you want but that’s just how it goes...lol. Just like how the dude I mentioned a long time ago that wanted a Cummins Power Wagon; Chrysler’s never produced one but that didn’t stop him. He built one, factory winch and all in a modified front bumper that fit just nicely with the intercooler.

But why the single cab?

I cheaped out and bought the lower end model. So damn sorry :( The bells and whistles are downright NECESSARY on these behemoths. I will not make that mistake after I sell this thing.

Wanted a 2019 Sport quadcab in blue but couldn't find one within 250 miles. The deal on my 18 silver quad was just too good to pass up.

You forgot maybe one more option: "They were giving away the truck I bought and it was close enough" I just got lucky to find a 2014 still sitting on that lot in Nov of 15! And the reg cab was the style I wanted anyway so I was the buyer...had the dealer salivating on my Tacoma double cab 4 cyl POS that didnt have enough power to get out of its own way but was a hot seller and I got to say what went on the deal. I couldnt do that again in my lifetime dont think

none of the above. but nah, I really don't have the truck I want exactly.

my past several vehicles have always been paid for in cash. not financed and especially not leased (I don't own a business to write off a lease)

I refuse to pay the price of new and lose the first year or two of depreciation so rapidly. so, I buy nearly new, low km (or miles) so there is some decent warranty remaining.

that being said, this makes picking and choosing options difficult and compromising fairly necessary. especially, when the truck I want is somewhat of a unicorn. (that's what I was told by more than 8 Ram dealerships when they were clearing out the 2017's and again the 2018's and trying to track down a trade province wide with the options I wanted).

what I wanted: 2015-2018 sport, crew, 4x4 with 6.4 bed. sport hood. no air suspension. 3.92 gears with lsd. no towing mirrors or trailer brake. sunroof, leather, convenience and remote entry packages, backup camera but no parking sensors front or rear. acceptable colours: bright white, delmonico red pearl, flame red, blue streak pearl.

what I ended up with: 2015 longhorn crew, 4x4, 6.4 bed. 3.21 gears (boo), lsd. air suspension (boo. don't like it in the winter lol). no towing mirrors but has trailer brake. sunroof, tan leather (very nice because there's no embroidery and looks sexy with the white truck, don't like all the woodgrain inside though). colour: bright white. has backup camera (yay) and sensors front and rear (boo). it had one owner. very low (km miles).

what kills this truck the most for me is the gears. the chrome is starting to grow on me.. slowly. after owning it for just over a year I have mentally committed to keeping it for a few years. purchased the extended gold plan 419 7/115 warranty that I'll never hit km wise but will cover the truck until Nov 2023.

unless my unicorn appears in daily browsing of used ads and alerts I get... I'm keeping this one and hope in the spring to order/install an Inez 4/6 lowering kit and pull out this air suspension.

This is my first pickup purchase and personally, I think I hit a home run. I had been driving luxury cars then SUV's but the luxury pickups kept catching my eye.

One test drive in my Longhorn was all it took, as long as some ******* doesn't take me out, I plan on keeping it a long, long time and getting my money worth out of the lifetime warranty.

One thing I miss is having a sunroof, but I there isn't enough headroom for big fellas. The back window does get the air moving through the cabin though.

On anything above base trim or below a specialty performance truck the rcsb is a hard sell. Thats why even when they did make them you didn't see many. Dealers sat on them forever so didn't order them often. I figure thats why making a 5th gen rcsb is low priority. They should just make a v6 one for work trucks in 2 and 4wd and a hellcat sport for the performance guys

I marked I have exactly what I want. It is except the color was my 4th choice as they only made at the time I ordered my Ram 2500 Long Horn, LWB, 4x4, Snow Chief in two shades of white, black, bright red, and granite (sort of dark gray) being my 4th choice.

I guess one other thing I didn't get that I would like to have had. A free truck.

I'm probably one of the older trucks in here. When I bought my 05 2500 CTD it wasn't exactly what I wanted (was lookin for short bed) but so glad I have the long bed now. The only thing I wish I had in mine now is modern radio. My truck is a Laramie w/ factory nav, but its 14 yr old nav now. Trying to save for a double din upgrade!

I hunted my '15 down for almost 2 months after a lot of research. I wanted the posi-rear end, but it ended up being my compromise. I wish I had it :/

Right after purchased, I swapped in a 8.4 RA3 nav, a stubby antenna, 20% tint, stubby antenna, N-fab nerf bars which came used with a K&N intake.

Wow. OP managed to provide eight possible answers yet left out probably one of the most obvious one.

I'd answer the question with item #9: FCA don't make the truck I want. (yet? I hope...)

I want:

12" screen
Ram Box
vented seats
6-foot bed
quad - NOT crew - cab

Because of 12" & vented seats, I am forced to go Laramie (or higher) trim.
Because I want quad cab I'm forced to 6 foot bed (which is okay, because I want the 6 foot bed)
FCA doesn't make the Ram Box for the 6 foot bed. (Yet. ? I can only hope that one day they will).

Hence I don't have the truck I want.

I guess I could've been more clear in my post. I meant why does a guy buy a regular cab 2 Wheel Drive V6 truck, and then trade it six months later for a crew cab dually diesel 4 x 4. Or complain because they bought a 4500 pound 400 horse four-wheel-drive truck that doesn't get good gas mileage. No manufacturer is ever going to hand build a One off truck to satisfy everyone.
