Recently got rear ended which bent my tailpipes and just noticed a wire which now touches the tailpipes has started to melt. It is located on the drivers side. Any help identifying what these wires are and any complications from heat damage would be much appreciated. Pictures attached.

If that wiring goes over to the rear wheel, that is for the ABS wheel speed sensor. The ABS will throw an error code and things related to vehicle speed like cruise control, ESC, traction control, etc will not function or in a limited capacity. Also the remote start may not work if there's an active error code

That is probably the worst wire to melt back there.

Also, should consider getting that tail pipe looked at. Looking at the hanger rubber, there is huge strain from the tail pipe being out of position and that rubber won't last long and will break, causing lots of problems..

Just an observation.

Yea im getting it all fixed next week. Subaru outback got me good. Would you recommend taping the wire up and off the exhaust for the time being then?

Do anything to keep that wire off the exhaust, up to and including lengthening / rerouting the wire if need be.
