Hello Ram Forum members!

I think I have my build figured out for ordering a Ram ... likely next year. Basically will be a Black Limited EcoDiesel, but one thing I'm kind of unsure about is the rim choice. I don't normally mind sticking with OEM rims on my vehicles, but I was thinking if I was considering trading out the stock rims I may as well just stick with the 20s if I'm going to replace them anyhow (save $2200 not getting the 22s). However, I'm not 100% certain I would change them out and find the 20s to look really small on the 5th Generation. If I'm going on looks alone I definitely prefer the 22s, but that's a pretty steep up-charge.

I like the idea of more sidewall versus the 22s but will it really matter that much ride-wise if I have air suspension? How large of a tire can a person go up to on the stock 20s and 22s without rubbing? All that being said, I think fuel economy is probably a higher consideration for me than some other people ... I know the difference between a 22 and 20 is minuscule in terms of fuel economy in the larger picture of things however. Plus a larger rim weighs more and the tire is wider so I suppose that makes fuel economy a hair lower as well.

I will likely be ordering this truck as I want the 3.21 rear end as I won't be hauling huge loads or towing a whole lot and think I'd appreciate the bump in fuel economy on road trips.

Would appreciate any input given this decision, but would for sure like to know:

- Maximum size tire that members are finding work with the 20s and the 22s. I do know that I will be getting all terrain tires at some point (yes, likely a minor fuel economy hit there too). I guess if I went with an aftermarket rim I could go with a larger tire than if sticking with OEM as well due to offset/backspacing.

Thanks for any thoughts you're willing to share!

I have the air suspension with the stock 22's and my truck rides like a dream but it has street type tires as supplied by the factory.

Thanks ... that helps. I think I'd like to stick with stock stuff. My build for 2021 may have changed with the addition of the Night Package for the Limited. May be sticking with White and the Night Package instead of Black.

Black Limited with the blackout package looks incredible, when clean. We have that truck (okay, girlfriend has that truck LOL). Very difficult to keep a black vehicle clean for very long unless you live somewhere like Florida. I think going with white is a great choice (one I wish I would have made). I'm on the fence about upgrading the wheels on my Laramie. It's a lot of money for the wheels I want, but I really don't like the chrome inserts on my stock wheels. In the end, there are other things I should probably spend the money on, so I'll probably just stick with stock.

The ride quality of the 5th gen 1500's is much improved over the 4th gens. Doesn't matter which model you ride in. Even with the ORG and 20 inch wheels, my Laramie rides like a luxury car. Same with my girlfriend's Limited with 22 inch wheels. From what I've experienced, the air suspension doesn't have the same affect on ride quality on the 5th gens as it did for the 4th gens. I couldn't tell the difference between air and non air suspension trucks I test drove last fall. Even on less than smooth roads. So I opted for the non-air suspension for my Laramie to save some $$$.

I think you're making a good choice in sticking with stock stuff if you're as concerned about fuel economy as it seems you are. While going with 20's will help with that a bit, switching out for bigger tires will have a negative affect, especially AT tires. Probably more than making up for what you gain with smaller wheels. And I assume that's why you decided on the oil burner instead of the hemi or gas V6.
