Just a follow up on my order. Paranoia got the best of me. I'm visiting relatives in Ky, and noticed the local dealer had it on the official mopar national store online at a good (for a dealer) price. I'm picking up 6 qts here for $26.65 ea. and will compare them to what I got thru amazon when I get back to my house in SC. I'll either send the amazon shipment back, or just save it for the next tranny service.

One thing to note. I've never used the mopar national ordering system before, but noticed pricing is dealer dependent. Good deal here where I am, but not so much at the local dealers where I live.

My last fluid change, I shopped around the Euro parts house sites and found ZF branded eight speed fluid on sale for like $17 a liter discounted from $22.

Did a change at 125k with Amsoil on my '17 1500 Crew Big Horn, Hemi, 4x4.
Had some harder shifts initially after the change so I had the dealer do a re-learn and within approx. 200 miles the shifts were smooth with no issues.
I currently have 271k total miles (146k on the Amsoil) with no shifting issues at all.
I also run a Pedal Commander with no issues.

If you're not aware of it, check out the Red Greene Show. I don't think its in syndication anymore, but I catch episodes on You Tube. For my tastes that show is hilarious!!

Follow up on that order from Amazon. Looks like the real thing to me. Sealed box and sealed qts of tranny fluid. Box and qts of fluid from Amazon look identical to the fluid I got from the dealer. You'll notice that the lot from Amazon is actually a lttle newer than the lot from the dealer (date on the box) so no worries about the Amazon seller having old expired stock. So I'll just keep one of the boxes for the next service. See pics...the dealer stock is on the left and the Amazon stock is on the right.

From the quarts you bought at the dealer, what does it smell like?
Mine had a distinct odor of the nastiest baby diaper. I kid you not. It’s also a dark green color. How’s your dealer quarts look?

Smell it and report back.
I didn't go out of my way to smell it or taste it, but I didn't notice any unusual smell. I just pumped it in. It was green, though it didn't look dark green going through the pump tubing. It's criminal that they stuck that filter to that ridiculously expensive pan (my only complaint about the process, that, and having to put my rear jackstands on blocks to level the pan).

I'll let others experiment with the aftermarket tranny fluids and I'll pay the stupid price for the OEM fluid knowing that I can find it and do it myself way cheaper than having someone else do it. How often do you have to service a supposedly "sealed for life" transmission anyway. I tow a bit and just bought the truck so I wanted to change all the fluids.

Valvoline has really upped their game in their offerings the last few years though. I really liked the toothpaste tube packaging of the gear oil I bought. Great idea for those of us laying on our back in a driveway. My lift days are over (mostly fortunately, except when I need to work on my vehicles).

I'll be using MaxLife in mine when the time comes. I'm at 84k now, I'll do it at 100k. MaxLife worked great in my 4L60 in my LS swapped C10 and everybody knows how fragile those gearboxes are. 30k miles of beating on it with 400hp and it still looked/smelled new when I drained it. I'm a believer.
