Anyone actually pay for the Uconnect access after free trial?

I just bought a 2014 2500 SLT with the 8.4 stereo. Wondering if anyone actually pays for the service. I like the idea of being able to start and unlock my truck from my phone, but it’s certainly not worth $150/yr for me. It seems like every other similar service is $50-60/yr. Are you getting anything else for the extra money? Will they give you a discount like Sirius does if you call them?

Um.... Hell no. Its totally not worth it. I am on the free trial now on my 17 and had it on my 16 and never use it. The app is incredibly slow and dated. although they have made some updates recently, its still a steaming pile of crap. Uconnect is just horrible.

I never used the free trial version. Mainly because I knew I wasn't going to pay for the service when it was due, and I didn't want to get used to having it, then turning it off. The way it sounds, I'm glad I didn't mess with it.

Uconnect is junk imo , we did not renew on the wife's 16 Challenger , the only thing she used it for was starting in the winter from her office at work . The apps are terribly dated and slow as Christmas ....too bad if it was $50-$75 we would've kept it just for the remote start via phone ....the fob works great [emoji36][emoji36]

Guess I'm different:) I use it ALL the time and it has always worked for me. I run equipment 8 months a year and it allows me to start the truck before I even get back to the yard, nice being able to get in a warm truck when its cold and a cool one when its warm.

As long as the hands-free calling works fine, that’s all I’m interested in.

Is the emergency calling stuff still a feature that has to be paid for? What about the traffic that gets used with the nav?

Traffic is through SiriusXM, not Uconnect. The traffic is free for 5 years, then you have to pay. Emergency calling is through Uconnect, so that needs service, but you can still reach the uconnect call center by pushing the phone button on the rear view mirror, even without service.

That’s cool, I take it after that traffic is a separate charge from the Sirius radio? How long is the Sirius free for?

So reaching the call center is pretty useless if that’s all that can be done for free?

Yes, there are 3 services:

SiriusXM Radio
SiriusXM Traffic
UConnect

I am not sure of how long the trials are, but I think it is 1 year for radio, 5 years for traffic, and not sure about Uconnect.

With my CPO Ram, I got 3 months Radio & Uconnect. I am still on the original Traffic 5 year traffic.

I'm not going to pay for traffic service, it is a PITA in the NY/NYC area, there is traffic on EVERY road, it keeps telling me there is traffic ahead (yeah, I know, I'm in the NY Metro area), and keeps asking me to reroute (no need, every road has traffic) requiring me to hit "no."

My brother came to visit, I punished him by making him sit and listen to how annoying it was. We had a good laugh. I haven't found out how to turn traffic notification off. If I could I would pay for the service, and only turn it on when needed.

Yeah, traffic services is pretty much worthless in New York...lol. I’ve driven a semi over there, wasn’t fun at all. Lol.

I would imagine there would be a way to turn it off.

Yeah that app-remote start is pretty worthless to me. I’m sure my key fob will work fine.

If there is, I haven't been able to find it yet.

The range of the fob, is so-so... It works when I'm at home (in my Den, I'm parked about 30-40 feet away, through an inner wall and garage door). I have found use for the app, remote starting when you don't have a line of site to the truck, especially in the winter here.

Living out here in BFE Oklahoma, I oughtta get pretty good use out of it.

You might try calling up SiriusXM and just have them turn it off if there’s not a way to disable it on your radio.

30 or 40 feet? That’s not very far. I can get about 100 to 125 feet with mine on my 08. Do you stay on top of your batteries? Since they don’t cost that much, I try to replace mine about once a year.

I have brand new batteries in it. But, remember it is probably 100-125 feet with line of site, no walls.

The range on my last remote start Viper alarm was 2,500 feet that was how it should be for all of these. So, I'm not all that impressed with the range of this system.

This morning I had to attempt the remote start 2 times for it to work. When I'm walking in a parking garage, I still have crappy range (on the same floor as the truck).

Traffic settings may exist. From a Jeep forum it said to go:

Navigation section
Settings/Guidance: TMC Route Mode (On-Off-Delay)
Settings/Guidance: TMC Avoidance Types

I turned the first on off, we will see if it will shut the eff up LOL.

I have a 2011 Big Horn that came with the factory remote starter. I added a Drone Mobile unit from Best Buy, and can start, lock, and unlock my truck from anywhere that I have a phone signal. 3 year plan for $100.

That is a really solid alternative. Thanks

Hi chrisbh17,

If you have an iPhone you can push and hold the VR button on your steering wheel to activate Siri and dictate a customized text message. This feature does depend on your vehicle's Uconnect system and its software level, feel free to send us a PM and I'd be happy to check if it is compatible with the system in your vehicle.

This is what I do and love it!! Other than just goofing off, I've only legitimately started my truck from my phone twice so, I don't think I'd miss that feature too much. Being able to track the truck through the APP could be useful though.

Not all of us have iPhones :) Im sure its a great feature, but Im an Android guy through and through.

@ramcares - thank you for the suggestion! My wife has an iPhone so Ill pair hers with my truck to see how it works. Also hoping that maybe Google Assistant works the same way Siri does, but I havent had a chance to try it.

Sounds like the uconnect app is being discontinued and will now be called Sirius Guardian. They already discontinued the apps they used to offer on the uconnect radio (like pandora and iHeartRadio). I noticed my 2017 didn’t have the apps (like my 2015). Called customer service and was told it was not offered anymore.
