Anyone actually pay for the Uconnect access after free trial?

I just bought a 2014 2500 SLT with the 8.4 stereo. Wondering if anyone actually pays for the service. I like the idea of being able to start and unlock my truck from my phone, but it’s certainly not worth $150/yr for me. It seems like every other similar service is $50-60/yr. Are you getting anything else for the extra money? Will they give you a discount like Sirius does if you call them?

No they know they have the market cornered, I called them out on it and they disconnected my service. I purchased a 2016 jeep grand cherokee diesel and a 2016 ram 2500 6.4 in 2016 so service ran out in 2017 as I paid for both the same week. They gave me nothing but and I quote pay for the service or don't we don't care you can't use it without us so you will be back. Now I have a 2018 Ctd ram and when it comes time to do anything with it I'll be finding other services. Worst customer service ever with uconnect and the new app is horrible, it is something that was tossed to the side and ran over a few times then given away for free on the programming boards.

BTW when you call them make sure to record them so when they try to mess you over you have proof of what they said if it is legal in your state like it is mine.

I can start my truck just fine with the fob and 98% of the time it will be adequate for me. $150/yr is WAY too much for the 2% of the time the phone remote start will actually be useful to me. I’d be in at $50-60 like every other service out there. I wonder what the % is of people who continue the service after the trial

I called them out on this when I got the "new vehicle survey" a couple weeks after buying my '17

But not for the remote start. I cant believe I have to PAY to be able to use a customized voice-recognition reply to a text message. Concentrating on listening to the pre-canned replies (somewhat unsafe) or fumbling through the touch screen to choose a pre-canned reply (REALLY unsafe) while driving is a pretty decent sized safety hazard.

But the ability to reply by voice only comes with the full fledged UConnect service. For 150/yr? Ridiculous.

We can't even get it in Canada... They're too cheap to switch the chips in the radios, since Canada no longer uses CDMA.

Best feature of the uconnect app was searching for a certain destination, i.e. name of place instead of the specific address and being able to send it to the truck. Still not worth what they are asking.

This is what my Uconnect Access got used the most for.

Also being able to send a destination from my phone before ever leaving was nice.

Mine ran up at the end of October. I did not renew it.

If you think 150 is bad it’s 250 on my charger with Sirius Guardian.

On my Sierra (a couple trucks back), the remote start and lock option worked even after the Onstar trial was done. I never paid or gave them a credit card and never renewed. All of the apps other features just stopped working.

Where are these $50 a year plans?
Onstar is way more than uconnect

https://www.onstar.com/us/en/plans-pricing.html

Ford remote access is $50/yr. viper smartstart is $70. The OnStar basic plan includes the remote start and lock/unlock feature for free. That’s all I want. Don’t care about any of the other features

What all does that Pherd remote access/Viper smartstart stuff consist of? How much is the basic OnStar package without any of the add-ons?

After what all that salesman told me yesterday about the Uconnect stuff, I don’t think I’d ever have a use for that stuff except for maybe the emergency thing where if you got into an accident, it’ll call the authorities for you. That would be useful.

My service rarely worked. I don't have remote start on my truck (don't know why, it's a loaded Laramie), and I can voice text with my phone. Why would I pay for it?

Did you pick your truck out on the lot? If so, just because it’s a Laramie doesn’t mean the dealer ordered it with remote start.

Unless it deals with the navigation, I really don’t need that.

The traffic is nice, the satellite radio and the safety stuff is nice but I don’t need that voice to text messaging stuff.

I picked it out of a lineup when I worked on the lot. I knew it didn't have it when I bought it. I just didn't think I would miss it as much as I do lol. It has everything else though. Except a rear defroster. Weird

When I bought my 08 I was still living in Colorado so, when it was really cold, I loved it but when I moved here to Oklahoma, I didn’t think I would need it but when it’s sweltering out in the summer, it’s nice to be able to cool the interior before I get in the truck.

Mine is a pretty well equipped Big Horn and it’s missing a few options that I thought were strange. The rear defroster being one, and tow hooks being the other. I have power heated seats and steering wheel, 8.4a stereo, remote start, but no rear defrost???

My Laramie which I just purchased has every conceivable option but park assist (which I didn’t care about) and the led bed lights (which I wanted). Park assist I get but the led lights are cheap, every truck should have those. Smh

Hi chrisbh17,

If you have an iPhone you can push and hold the VR button on your steering wheel to activate Siri and dictate a customized text message. This feature does depend on your vehicle's Uconnect system and its software level, feel free to send us a PM and I'd be happy to check if it is compatible with the system in your vehicle.
