What they "Give you" for your truck doesn't really mean anything. What is the price difference?

That is only true if you carry little to no equity or are upside down. I usually carry 75%+ positive equity and treat what I get for my trade and what I negotiate for the new vehicle being purchased as two separate entities. If both are done well, "price difference" does not come into play and what they give me for the trade does matter. Nor do I negotiate base on monthly payment.

I’m surprised the transmission hasn’t quit working from overheating that often. That transmission must be pretty tough. 5th gear is probably gone. I wouldn’t be afraid to get another RAM if you like them. I think all brands have lemons and all service departments try to avoid making repairs under warranty.
I had one service manager tell me “We found the problem. The truck has a loose nut behind the steering wheel”. I didn’t think it was too funny at the time.
I had another dealership that the service manager beat on the side of the truck bed with a hammer because he was pissed that I kept bringing the truck back for the same issues. They had to replace the truck bed that he beat up because I wouldn’t accept a patched one. Under warranty they replaced both front seats, both rear springs, rear windows and seals, alternator and the instrument cluster. I moved a couple hours away to Dallas and I’ll be damn if the service manager at the next dealership wasn’t the other guys brother.

I always tell the car salesman I don’t have a trade. The car salesman has nothing to do with financing anyway. They will jack the vehicle price up and say “We are practically giving you what you paid for your trade in”.
I was just looking at “2019” trucks and you can pick up a Laramie 4x4 with every option for under $40k. The trucks they are calling a 2019 have been sitting on the lot for almost a year. I guess they will call the ones shipped next month a 2020 model or maybe even a 2021 model? You will be able to buy a 2019 Ram that’s almost 2 years old next year.

Update, the truck almost left me stranded today.
Was on a 3 hour road trip this evening, luckily on the way home. When it attempted to downshift to 5th and like it had done many times before it acted like it was in neutral then bang into 6th.
However this time when it banged into 6th, it stayed in 6th.
I mean it only had ONE GEAR, 6th.
Believe it or not, the truck will take off from a dead stop in 6th.
Oddly enough the closest dealer was Keffer, the place I bought the truck and had so much trouble with.
I managed to limp it in the dealer.
Keffer has a new service manager, and she was very helpful.
We'll see how long that last.
Any way, they gave me a loaner, so now I'll just have to wait to see what they find.

AFAIK locked into 6th is limp home mode so maybe now there is something concrete for a dealer to look at.

Hopefully when they let you know whats wrong with the transmission, they are going to replace the whole thing. Insist on making sure the transmission heater assembly is also replaced.

If they do give you a new tranny, besides the heater assembly, also push hard for a new A/C condenser,as that's where the transmission cooler is located.

I wonder if when the dealer replaced your 8 speed xsmn if they serviced the fluid level properly ?
It's a 9step procedure that's pretty specific ....

I'll never know, neither dealer I took to in the past never checked the fluid level.
My guess is as many have said the past, theheater assembly was bad, possibly contaminated from the first failure.
I called FCA customer care, and I'll have a new case manager.
Hopefully I can convince them to replace everything that the fluid goes through.
It's the only way to prevent future problems.
I find it odd the so many of us know the problem is not necessarily the trans. But heater assembly is the root cause, yet FCA will not acknowledge it.

@Pettybuilt , once this is said and done , regardless of what happens I'd ask to speak to the tech that did the work and ask him how the xsmn was serviced and what type of fluid was used .

Frustrating Update.
I get a text from my service adviser that a valve body was ordered. I didn't even call, i just left work, went straight there to talk with the service manager. Just so happens the Tech who is doing the work was in the lobby.
After explaining to them both that a valve body was not going to fix my truck and they was once again wasting my time. He said that was FCAs protocol even though he told me the fluid smelled burnt. I showed the tech the pictures of the trans @ 271. He then agreed that a valve body was not going to do anything. He acted surprised that it had got that high even though i had sent a picture to the old service manager back in August.

So when i left the New service manager and the tech told me they would start a Star Case (whatever that is) and would recommend the trans, thermal management unit and cooler be replaced.

Today i'm told they are going to replace the thermal management unit and valve body.
I know that if the fluid is burnt, then the trans has been compromised.

I'm almost at the end of my rope with FCA. Their customer care is horrible. I have a new case manager, however I've never spoke with her. I missed her call on monday, ive called back 6 times, and she has yet to return my call.

The first trans was replaced because the tech noted the fluid was burnt. So why is it any different?

Unfreakingbelivable !!!!!!!

Only way to make this right is :

1) dealership provides you with alike vehicle while they have yours in for repairs.

2) FCA The following :
A . Transmission
B . Transmission fluid cooler
C. Thermal valve assy
D . All Transmission related Plumbing
E. 100,000 mile no questions asked replacement warranty on the above parts with a replacement vehicle...

And to top it off I have a trip planned on the 28th. I need my truck to pull my enclosed.
They have me a jeep wrangler.
I just called to talk with the service director at the dealer, waiting on a call from her.

I frequent a popular Tacoma forum just because I had a 2nd gen Tacoma for a short while and I like popping in to see how the 3rd Gens are doing. Your dealer experience is not unique with Ram. Obviously, internet forums usually bring out only the worst stories people have with their trucks. As renowned as Tacomas are with reliability, some they have their issues. What's surprising to me by reading forums the amount of pushback and lack of support Toyota has towards their customers. Of course, there's always two sides to every story. I take it all with a grain of salt.
