I soooooo miss my console shifter. Makes no sense, if the transmission is electronic why the console shifter is no longer an option. Electronic impulses could emanate from any mechanism produced by the manufacturer to change gears in the trans. I would gladly give up some of the storage in the center console for a shifter mounted there.

I know, beating a dead horse. Rant over. :(

Hey, what's wrong with the console shifter? Lol. I have one and I like it.

That’s good, at least some people do, I spose. Sorry, it’s just that the console shifter in my opinion has too much car written all over it and doesn’t work in a truck, sorry. That, and Phord started that BS long time ago before Ram and Ram copied it.

Just don’t care for it, ain’t driving a car or a minivan. At least the dial shifter in the 8-speeds is on the dash, like the rotary dial for the transfer case used to be on the dash.

Just me, I spose.

You can’t get the rotary shifter outta park without the key either.

My grandfather had a Chevy truck that was a 3 on the tree. (Waaaayyyy back in the day) Any time I see a truck with a column shifter, it reminds me of that old thing. Haha.

I got this decal off eBay. Makes the shift knob a bit less bland. It's a bit "domed", and seems to fit well. The seller had a bunch of designs to choose from too. I would have liked to have made up a custom version, but I didn't see an option to have him custom make one.

I have it set up so it's level when I'm in drive. Works for me...

I was going to stick my Ordnance Corps Regimental Crest on the knob, but it isn't perfectly flat, so the insignia wouldn't mount right (the flame on the bomb/tips and bottoms of the cannons wouldn't sit flush against the knob). :( I have this insignia on my inner fairing (Ultra Limited), and wanted to put it on the truck somewhere, but the shifter isn't going to allow it.

(the mileage on the Harley shows how little I managed to ride in 2018: between crap weather and work, I only managed 5502 miles last year. :( )

Very nice decal. and challange coin...
I was riding about 15000 to 17000 a year on my bike !And that was with Maine weather :O :) I had 4 weeks vacation and rode from Maine to Fla. and in between connecting with friends ! Had a blast. But after back injury and nerve damage holding up a 900 lb bike was not a good idea :(

so weird how much it bothers people to have a dial shifter... lol

I know, it’s like taking your time getting familiar with such an easy thing is just too much for some folks. I didn’t have a problem with the column shifter but by God if they’re gonna make a change, I’d much rather have it take up a littler spot on the dash rather than take up a whole area in the console for places to put stuff.

Custom rotary shift knob design? Actually, I like the RAM's rotary dial. My only complaint is that it tactically feels like the fan speed knob, which is right next to it. Sometimes when backing out, I'll reach to shift into Drive and turn the fan speed up! So yes. A custom design that looks and feels different, would be a nice, little upgrade. How 'bout one that's color matched to body or the interior?

Personally, I would like a shifter that is not round. It's been over a year now, and I still haven't gotten used to the round knob. I guess it's an "old dog, new tricks" issue with me since all of my previous trucks (GMC, Ford, and Ram) have all been equipped with column shifters.

I don't think I would struggle as much if there weren't already several other round knobs all within a few inches of each other (shifter + radio volume + three AC controls).

I don't know if it would even be feasible, but I would like to have a "pointer" style knob ... or a square knob or brass knuckles or whatever-the-hell-else-there-is kinda knob ... anything except round!

I'm thinking a wood centerpiece with distressed brown or black leather for the knob portion. Would probably get slick in the cold but would look nice. Another option might be a distressed brown or black leather centerpiece with a brass knob with a barbed wire pattern on it, a little over the top maybe but I think it would look cool.
