You may possibly be able to take a stock bolt/stud and go to a fastener business and tell them you need it in stainless steel.. you may have to ditch the stock heat shields and just get a bolt. My headers have been on for over two years with the stainless bolts and no probs. I'm in the north east.. hot and cold.

You don't need headers just to replace with better hardware. It's just thread and pitch.

I realize what your saying, but isn't the real problem the different expansion rates of the two different metals? Simply changing the bolts to a different type of metal, seems to be a compensation for the problem, without actually addressing the problem. Kinda like treating the symptom rather than the disease?

Really I wouldn’t worry to much about it. Sure it’s a common issue but I would just worry about it if it happens. Never had it happen on my 2014 1500 I had.

82,000 miles on my 14 with no issues. If you found a common problem with a vehicle that ended in serious engine destruction then you should worry.

Just make sure you REALLY want it before you buy it. Fun truck to drive and proud to say I have one. With that being said, it has definitely provided a long list of problems over the first 6 months of owning it. I should of seen it coming (bought it with 110k miles). So if I were you, I'd get a 2017 or newer with low miles or even a Cummins if you have the dough.

Really? Can you expand on that a bit? I do plan on a very slightly used one. Hoping to afford one that's 40K miles or less. Is this "long list of problems" that you encountered typical of all rams, or just bad luck on your truck?

Because I could go to a Ford or GMC or Chevy, but I'm hearing such a laundry list of expensive troubles with those, and I'm hearing the least about rams.

With 40k miles or less, you shouldn't find very many problems, unless the owner ignored something that went bad. My case seems to be a little bit of bad luck because of the sequence and timing of everything, as well as typical problems. At 110k miles, it is pretty common for the cam and lifters to start failing. Mine failed at 117k. Ignitions coils, spark plugs, and driver-side exhaust manifold bolts were also replaced at that time. A month after that, I needed my transmission condenser replaced and various other components because apparently trans fluid was leaking on the belt, causing it to squeak obnoxiously. All in all, about 6k worth of repairs covered by warranty. Another 2k or so coming out of my pocket. I highly recommend an extended warranty, no matter the year or miles. I wouldn't be driving this truck without it.

It was a long and expensive road to get where I am now, but it's been worth it IMO and to be fair, I bought it with a fair amount of miles on it so it was to be expected for the most part.

I've heard nothing really too good about Ford, GMC, or Chevy so I'm hoping my Ram can serve me well for quite some time. (fingers crossed).

thanks for the info. I'm one who keeps their vehicles for a long time typically. My current dodge dakota has 205K miles on it, and still running beautifully.

No problem. I wasn't on here before I bought my Ram so I like to give people a heads up before they roll the dice lol.

Ya know, now I"m looking into all the people having cam and lifter problems with the Hemi. I'm starting to lean toward the pentastar, and just forget that Hemi. I don't need it, just wanted the power for fun. But I'll pass if that fun comes with so many headaches.

I don’t blame you man. Unfortunately, a lot of people experience those types of issues. Pay to play kinda thing.

If I was to buy a Hemi I would replace the bolts because I tend to keep my vehicles a long time and the old broken ones are much more difficult to replace than new unbroken ones.

You should drive the 3.6 as it has a lot of power and puts a smile on my face whenever I floor it. Not a match for the Hemi beast but I pass cars with ease.

Yes, I will be driving it. Sounds like I'll be pleasantly surprised by it. I'm sure for my use, it will be more than enough.

I have never heard of this potential issue. I had a 2008 RAM HEMI with 120k miles and the only thing other than a battery, brakes, and outer tie rod replacement, I would drive it anywhere. I have a 2016 RAM HEMI with 44k miles with only software updates. I did get the lifetime warranty which I paid off in January. I drove it from Houston to Douglas GA to get a cargo trailer and back with no problems.

Got a 2017 ram hemi with over 26,000 miles on it with no issues. I don’t drive it like I stole it, but I do enjoy my truck

I had 110,000 miles on my 2012 Ram hemi with no issues. I have 8500 miles on my new Ram hemi and no issues on it either. So don't hesitate to buy a hemi. It's a great engine in my opinion.

Mine broke at ~70k miles on a 2015. No questions asked from the dealer - They replaced all bolts and both manifolds. From what I've read though doing just the bolts is a pretty easy afternoon job, barring any stubborn broken bolts.
