Hey everyone,
I finally got the MX interface and still waiting to go into town to get the Play card to get the AP. But I am playing around with the Demo to see if this cable I got will do the same as the Koadtech one (got it from nephew who ordered it by mistake). Before I got the MX, I could not connect to any of the modules or anything using a $9 interface I had laying around. Now it appears that I can do it. I was able to read the BCM config file and check for DTCs.
Now for the main reason of the post, while I was on my work break and checking out the stuff, I found some codes and appeared to be about the CHMSL. Of course I did not write them down, I will later today. The dealer put on a CHMSL light flasher prior to purchase and then I replace the bulbs with LEDs.
Going by whats below from the BMC log, it is strange to have "CHMSL Lamp Open Circuit DTC Enable: No" like that. I can only think that the flash module screws with the circuit and they turned it off.
Anyone know what "CHMSL Line CSM: No " does?
I searched the BCM file for "CHMSL" and these are the results. In () I took a s.w.a.g. and put down what I though the entry does.

CHMSL camera: No (Cargo cam)
CHMSL Line CSM: No (No idea)
LED CHMSL Lamp Present: No (Not sure is LED bulb should turn on)
CHMSL Lamp Open Circuit DTC Enable: No (burned out bulb announce)
CHMSL Lamp Output Disable: No (turns it off completely)
I know it ****** to put this here without the actual codes, but wondering
1) if anyone with the dealer installed flasher/modulator thing has seen the DTC entry disabled
2) replaced using LED bulbs and changed atleast the LED present setting (I know there is a LED light assembly)
3) what is the CSM Is about
4) hoping this is a easy test of the cable to see if it will work (getting play giftcard today)
Your guess is most likely correct.....they were getting errors with it and basically "fixed the glitch" by disabling the error getting thrown. While not the worst thing ever, it is kinda a "lets sweep this one under the rug" approach.
The flash module most likely DOES mess with the circuit....the BCM probably sees the brake light flashing on and off as a bulb out, etc.
It MIGHT be able to be fixed by simply setting LED CHMSL Lamp Present to Yes....Im not sure anyone knows for sure, but we *think* setting to LED causes the BCM to ignore the current going to/from the light, if that is true then the flasher shouldnt cause an error anymore. I have LED bulbs in my third brake light and set LED present to Yes. No issues here, but they were bulbs that have "CAN adapters" built in to supposedly prevent errors. I do not have a third party flashing unit like you, though.
CSM = Customer Settings Menu. If enabled, it shows a settings menu on the radio (if applicable to your particular vehicle model). Im not sure what the Line CSM does.
TBH I wouyldnt be happy with a dealer installed module like that....I bet if you looked at the wiring its probably not the best. Maybe if they used factory-like connectors it wouldnt be so bad, but my guess is they just t-tapped off the existing wires.
