Hello all,
I just purchased a 2015 RAM 1500 4x4 Crew Cab Black Edition for my wife. Currently the truck is completely stock other then the LED swap I did. We want some more growl to it. I searched on the site for some exhaust ideas and feedback but there is so many I figured I would post here and hope someone can redirect a link or just give me some advice. I also do not understand the term "drone" ive seen that in many exhaust threads.

Here is what I am looking for:

We would like it to have more rumble but we also do not want it to be crazy loud since we have a 3 year old daughter. So at this time i am not looking for headers (yet). I am looking to just give it some more sound and slightly better performance. Also wondering if I can get a little better gas mileage with opening the exhaust up.

Ive seen resonator or muffler deletes but not sure on whether that is something worth doing or if i should just buy a new muffler and x pipe or y pipe?

Sorry I am new to the truck world I own an STi so having a HEMI is quite a bit different from modifying my car.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and if we have a dealer that offers us discounts that would be nice to know. Lastly what brand is going to be my best bet to go with.

Thanks again,

If it's dual exhaust I'd start with 5" tips, they add depth & a bit of volume to the factory exhaust note.
Drone is hearing the muffler inside the cab at highway speeds. Personally doesn't bother me, but I'm single so nobody to complain about noise.

Man there are as any opinions about what makes a good exhaust as there are tastes in music or food...

I like the factory side exit exhaust because it doesn't get smashed up when I come off a ledge on rough trails, and it doesn't blast at my bike tires when I'm carrying bikes on my hitch carrier. Plus it's nearly silent any time I'm not on the gas. Crazy right?

Everyone's got a different idea. Listen to some youtube videos would be my best suggestion, not any shortage of those.

18" Magnaflow and if you want more after that do 5" tips.
I would leave the resonators on it.

I have a Carven Progressive and it sounded great and was at what I thought a good sound level but as I put the miles onnit has gotten quite a bit louder which is not what I wanted.

Do you have dual exhaust pipes out the back?

If so, Magnaflow offers a single in / dual out muffler that will work on your exhaust. Use your stock tailpipes and you won't have to worry about "drone".

Drone is resonance in the exhaust system. Think of it as a frequency rumble. It can be pretty obnoxious. The stock resonator(s) on the tail end of the stock exhaust attenuate drone.

Magnaflow also offers a single in / single out muffler that will work with your exhaust. Remove the stock muffler, install the Magnaflow unit and you are good to go.

I'd google some Borla, Magnaflow & Flowmaster exhaust clips for the 5.7L HEMI cars and trucks. They will give you a better idea of how each of them sound.

Good luck!

I would recommend MBRP but I have a soft spot for them as they do manufacturing right down the highway from me. Their stuff sounds amazing and you do get the nice low rumble. Once again this is just my slightly biased opinion

Hey Dan! I was looking for the same thing on my 2013 Ram 1500. The factory exhaust just didn’t do the Hemi justice. I went to my local exhaust shop to talk about options, and he recommended the Magnaflow 12288 muffler. I was leaning more towards a Flowmaster, but he said that he really recommends Magnaflow over Flowmaster. So I pulled the trigger, and had him install it. I’m glad I did.

Zero drone in the cab, meaning it can feel like a pressurized balloon under hard acceleration. And it’s fairly quiet under normal driving conditions. However the growl during start-ups, and cold-starts is beefy and exactly what I was looking for. And when I put my foot into it, people know that I’m coming down the road. But not obnoxiously. I run that with the factory setup and I’m happy.

As far as performance and fuel economy go, I didn’t notice much of a performance gain. I wanna say that Magnaflow claims it gives the truck 10HP or so, but something like that isn’t going to be too noticeable. It’s more of a placebo effect, since you can hear the exhaust a lot more over the factory one. Same with fuel economy. It’s still the factory 3” tubing into 2.5” dual rear exhausts. So I’m going to say that the only thing you are really going to notice is the tone and noise difference.

All-in-all, I’m super happy with this muffler and for $359 installed, it wasn’t too bad. You also can’t beat Magnaflow’s lifetime warranty. Just keep the tag and the receipt. I’m sure there are a few clips on YouTube, but nothing is going to do it justice like hearing it in person.

Hope that helps!

Yes that is it! Thank you. Do you mind sending me or telling me what you ordered and from where?
Tips I got from moes performance. I got the xpipe (generic magnaflow) off of Amazon. Xpipe was like $50 the tips are $199. Don't have to have the tips but they will make it sound deeper. I left the stock resenators.

Fyi it is loud when you get on it. Drone isn't that bad dont have to talk loud to have a convo. I use it to tow a heavy travel trailer 1400 mi trips 2-3 times a year thru mountains all I can say about that is if you are in VA they hear you in NC lol. It is 100% badass though.

I've had more mufflers than I care to admit on my truck. The one's I've had that fit what you're looking for are (in no particular order) Dynomax Ultraflo 6" round, Borla Pro XS, and Flowmaster 50HD. All these provide great tone and no drone to very minimal drone.

Search some of my threads for more details.

first this...

then this...

The Carven was loud and mean, but the drone was horrible between 55-65mph. The DIY clamps don't seal like a weld, even with a replacement from Carven. Much happier with the Borla. Low growl, roars when I jump on it, minimal drone.

When I bought my 2018 Sport it had some unknown muffler and it was loud! Drone at highway speeds was annoying. Since the muffler was welded on and looked like kind of a hack job, I replaced everything from the muffler back with a Borla Touring exhaust. Now I have a nice mellow exhaust and no more drone at highway speed. It was expensive but from the fit and build of the exhaust I think it's worth it. Plus the larger tips look great.
I think there is someone on the site, Nick?, who offers a discount too.
