Was quoted:

ARB RD197 $1130.00
Carrier bearings if needed $90.00
Oil $30.00
Labor $600.00

Apparently ARB does not make a rear locker yet for the 2020 2500, as RAM changed something in their rear diff in 2019. I ordered it with the anti spin diff... unfortunately, the Limited only gets a limited slip vs an actual locker.

Want to play in the snow and do moderate offroad trails. Worth the cost? Already have a twin ARB air compressor installed.

Worth it is a very subjective concept. I’ve done a lot of moderate wheeling in trucks without lockers or even LSD. Traction control in late models is pretty effective at braking a spinning wheel to transfer power to the other side.

You can see from my signature that lockers are worth it to me, but I often drive way past moderate.

Why not try it some off-road and assess the performance and go from there?

Thanks, my other vehicle is a 2015 G550 that is triple locked. Feel a little naked without it to be honest lol.

LOL I’m sort of the same way. I used to wander the woods in old 2wd trucks that might or might not crank, much less get stuck.

Now I’m spoiled and I want lockers and a winch just to drive through the ditch.

Really surprised by the lack of technical information on these boards compared to Toyota and Jeep boards. Is it rare for people to go offroading or overlanding in their rigs? A reliable front and rear locker are pretty par for the course.

I stay off road, I’m in the woods almost every day, but do I ever use my lockers? Nope, Hardly ever.. do I engage my 4 wheel drive? All the time..

It’s nice to have if I ever need it, and that’s why I bought the truck (power wagon). A little piece of mind goes a long way for me. Because when the **** hits the fan and I need it, I will have it.

most people on forums dont know how the vehicle works mechanically. sorry this isnt a toyota board:anitoof:

you might do some research and see if the new rear housing is still using any of the older 11.5 components like carrier, ram has known to do that sort of stuff. if so then your all set for a arb. but they may use all new internals. ive just no experience with the new housing to be of any help

They’re right, the housing changed for 2019. The power wagon still uses the old housing because of this.

MetalDog, it's funny how many Toyota guys (me included) are buying RAMs and searching out technical info. I'm still trying to confirm whether my "anti-spin" rear diff is clutch (likely) or gear-driven...

I'm up just North of Vancouver, WA; would you be willing to share who quoted you? I've had mixed experiences with Portland area vendors for gear/diff work, and am trying to line up other options.

I managed to literally get stuck backing up the incline of my paved driveway in the rain the other night. When I put one rear wheel off into some mud, both rears just spun so I don't think the "anti-spin" is going to keep me comfortable for too long. In fairness, I've got the OEM Firestone 30" base tires on yet, and combined with the torque of the 6.7 it requires lots of finesse not to put the diff into play.

Thanks CG 2742, but I'm wondering about the rear diff in my Ram 2500 HD diesel. The legend goes the rear LSD's were Torsen gear-type diffs until 2018, but apparently many are saying 2019 on now have clutches. I'm wanting to change the fluids in mine, and want to have the right fluids before I open them up. I've always run ARB air lockers and TruTracs in the past, so never needed to deal with friction modifiers.

Wow! thanks crazy jerry for the insight, never considered that....

maybe you could show me where the reference is that describes anything beyond "anti-spin" ? I have read it, as well as the related upfitter's manual and other RAM publications. I apologize if my question wasn't worthy of an answer.

Mine's 549 pages, and none of them indicate whether the "anti-spin" rear differential is clutch or gear driven. That's what I'm asking.

The legend is true, now:

Go to the parts store and buy 4 bottles of 75w85.

Pull off the rear diff cover.

Now you’ve seen the clutches. Clean up the magnets and the gasket, put ‘er back together. Fill it up and beer o’clock.
