Around here diesel is $1.00/gallon more than gasoline. And it stinks bad...lol. I feel like I'm gonna puke when I smell it. But yeah, no need for it here. My son wants one because of how many miles he drives but I told him he would have been very close to being over payload towing his 8000lb camper to Texas. Hard to believe a 2500 diesel can be illegal with an 8000lb TT. His truck was 9040lbs. Add about 800-900 for the Cummins and he would have been right at the limit

i like my 2500 CTD it gets better milage then my 5.3L chevy and the cost of fuel right now is .10 cents a gal more then gas. 2.19 diesel. The ride of this Laramie is great, I pull my fifth wheel trailer at max towing load but have no issues with power. I use mine about 95% of the time as a daily driver. We pulled the fifth wheel at 60 to 65 miles per hour and the breaking was still great. Trailer duels stop real well. So Far So GOOD :) If I had to do it again I think I still would pick the 2500 unless the wife wants a larger 5thw

maybe RAM sould make a 3000, like the old F150 gasers, make a 2500 with a 3500 rear drive train. Increase the payload by 500 pounds :)

Still trying to find all the options I want before I purchase, but I'm going with the 6.4. Tried the diesel in a 4th Gen and didn't like it. My 6.4 towed my very overweight (thanks for letting my register it higher gov) load with no real struggle. I was never a diesel guy. Diesel is almost $3 more a gallon here and it's hard to find stations that sell it.
I've done a lot of work to gas swaps in my day just well because lol but diesel never caught on to me. I will say though I love the turbo sounds

Were the h3ll do you live that Diesel is $3 more a gallon then gas and it's that hard to find? Where I live it's pretty much the same price as the cheap gas so it was a no brainer for me (to get a diesel).

Here in western PA it's usually about $1/gallon more but I just checked my app on my phone and it's only about .30/gallon more now

Really small town less then 3000 people. It's all farms we have one gas station that does not sell diesel only gas. I should rephrase that and say it's out of my way to get diesel. I don't know about more but when I was visiting family in PA a few years ago it was almost $2 more. I did a yearly price when I owned a diesel, and it would take me 8 years to make the diesel worth it. Plus around here diesels are cheap. I paid $800 for my 01 Ram 2500 5 spd that is getting hemi swapped.

I just traded a 2013 CTD Crew Cab for my 2020 Mega Cab 6.4. Haven't had the chance to hook up the camper yet but I ordered it with the 4.10's so I think it will do fine. I only tow it a handful of times a year so I didn't think we really needed the Cummins anymore. The truck is my DD so I wanted something I didn't have to worry about plugging in or treating the fuel all winter. Already had a few issues with the DEF system in the '13 so that was always a constant worry in the back of my mind. That combined with Cummins decision to go with the CP4 pump in 19 made the decision a little easier. I'd rather give it a few years to see how that's gonna work out rather than be their guinea pig.

Only 2 things I miss so far, that low end torque on take off and the exhaust brake. Wish there was a way you could make an EB work on a Gas motor..

So, after a hair over 11 months, I'm back in a Diesel. Went to the dealer with full intentions of ordering another Big Horn Mega Cab with a 6.4 and they just happened to have a Laramie Mega Cab with a 6.7 that just called my name. Took it for a test drive and realized how much I really missed the torque of the Cummins. My 6.4 in no way did me wrong, was a great DD and did everything I asked it to do. Pulled my 10k lb 5th wheel wherever I wanted it to. Biggest thing I hated was the color. Patriot Blue is a hell of a lot darker in person then it shows online. Didn't care for it from the day I picked it up and was the sole reason I was looking to order a new truck. This Granite Crystal Metallic on the other hand, AMAZING!

Diesel drivers dont smell the diesel when they drive but everyone behind them does. My biggest complaint is the oil spills around the pumps because so many owners let the fuel splash out when refueling. I bet they would be more careful if they had to clean up their own spills.

I am also shopping 2500's. my son bought a dsl one last week because he found a great deal on a 2020 laramie 2500 dsl but before he bought, we were both looking at how much load cap you lose on a 2500 when you go dsl..you end up with 900# or so less cargo cap and this puts him close to the max pin wt. for his 8500# 5th wheel..if I go gas, I would have no trouble with any of the 5th wheels I have been looking at.

Oh please. Just as many gas owners spill gas. Difference is gas just soaks in and you don't see the oil residue. Get off your high horse.

If I could find a 2006 or older in very fine condition I would buy the diesel. That ain't gonna happen so looks like it would be gas for me in a HD RAM.

Oh please. Gas evaporates but diesel just lays there like a big oil spill. Most diesel owners are respectable about fueling but a few create a hell of a mess for everyone behind them to have to walk through.

Gas, 6.4L.

I was one of the first owners of the Cummins Turbo Diesel, 6BT5.9 engine. Sold in 1999 for a "civilized" (read: family) truck.

With kids grown, went back to 2500 HD. Emissions controls have made them much more expensive relative to gas engines, no payback for part time needs. 6.4L does plenty good with occasional moderate load trailing over hills. 1500's squat too much, stock air bag kit is no good in northern climates (no air dryer, etc.). I wasn't going to retrofit a major aftermarket suspension system because the factory's was no good. 2500 rides good with 5 link coil-over-shock suspension. Only complaint it is so high up I had to install a bed ladder.

Well, after months of comparing, fretting, worrying, running numbers etc, I bought a '19 2500 Tradesman with the 6.4 Hemi. Couldn't be happier with my decision. Picked it up used with 13k miles on it. I drive about 3500 mostly highway miles a month and on paper that screams diesel but I was wary of all the new emissions crap and trouble people have been reporting and I didn't want to risk breaking down in the middle of nowhere. So, I ran the numbers and based on my situation (needs, driving habits and diesel is roughly .75 cents a gallon more than gas in my area), I went gas. After about 3000 miles I'm averaging 16.8 mpg. I got 18.4 on the 1 hour 45 min ride home on Thursday with the cruise set on 74 the entire way. That ride is usually gets around 17-ish but I had a tail wind. The '14 F150 with 200,000 miles on it that I traded was at 17.7 mpg lifetime. So overall I'm very pleased with the purchase. This coming from a die-hard Ford guy who swore he would never have a Dodge product. I'm sold on my Ram!

Yep. My son has a 2018 and already has almost 80,000 miles on it with about 7000 of that towing his 8000lb camper. He is headed home from right by the Minnesota/North Dakota border heading back to Pittsburgh towing his camper. He said his EVIC is reading 8.6 MPG so far. He is almost in Ohio now so only a few more hours. Then he leaves Monday morning for Philadelphia towing his camper again. I have the same truck as him and we love them
