I have '2021 Big Horn DT (new body), level 2, Bed Utility, LED package. Build date Oct 2020. Got the truck for 2 days, Tailgate drop down while I'm driving, no warning light, icon, or sound to warn me about. Contact FCA, they check my VIN and said My truck should have warning feature. They open up a case for me. I bring the truck to dealer, they rip open tailgate and said my truck don't have that feature???!!!!
Call FCA talk Case Manager. next day she call back and said My Truck doesn't have the option?@!?><@

RAM is my first and will be the last.

Pull up your build sheet and see if you have that option - I am guessing you don't.
But you are upset with FCA for ???
Maybe someone erroneously told you that your truck has the option when it in fact appears to not have it.

If it is in the build sheet then you may have some ammo to have it installed.

If you don't do the research and buy correctly then why is it FCAs fault?

What? Research "Tail gate opens by itself".
OP may wish he had the warning, but the real issue is the tailgate is coming unlatched by itself.
Same as what happened with the 4th gen.

The tailgate falling open isn't the real issue.

The REAL issue is, if something as small, petty, minor and insignificant as a tailgate falling open without warning you is enough to trigger you into a meltdown, then by god thank your lucky stars that you live such a blessed life.
There are a lot of people that would wish for a falling open tailgate to be their biggest problem in their lives!
Don't sweat the small stuff :)

Check the build sheet and the window sticker. Ram will correct the tailgate issue if it's falling open, but if the warning system doesn't show on the build sheet or window sticker, you shouldn't have it- perhaps a salesman misguided you (to think...).

I would never trust a car salesman when it came to options..........HELL most of them don't even know what's under the hood. I've yet to meet one that knew 1/10th as much about their product as the customer did. When I went truck shopping I looked at the options on the window sticker myself to make sure I was getting what I wanted. I guarantee you that those 3.92's gears that I had to have that the salesman thought that the truck had would be inconsequential and no big deal to the dealer or FCA after the fact. Better go trade it for a GM truck with one of those fancy new $2500 multi-functional tailgates quick.

Not justifying a tail gate falling open (wouldn't lose my religion if it did) but I found if I kinda slam my tailgate it won't latch, if I just push it and click it shut I've never had a problem. Guess how I shut mine now without calling anyone or having a melt down? Solved my own problem.

When I went to dealer I had him bring me the window sticker off the trucks I liked. I sat there and looked up each truck in the fca vin look up for a build sheet. I matched them to verify the options I wanted were present. Salesman thought I was weird. I got what I wanted is all that mattered.

That's how you have to do it to really make sure you are getting what you want, verify with the build sheet. It's rare but window stickers can be incorrect, always best to verify with the build sheet.

If a tailgate on the Fird fell down with no warning that might be a real problem.Everyone knows the Ford tailgate has to stay up to enable the truck to be pushed properly.

It is rare, in my experience, to have a dealer ask me what I wanted in a truck, or how I might use it. But, I had one great experience. On my first new Ram, I had stopped by my local dealer a few times over the course of a year (takes me a long time to figure out just what I want, my current one took 2.5 years till I was ready) to look at trucks. One day I stopped by, and the sales person that knew me showed me in that happened to just come off the truck. As I was checking it out, I kept saying "exactly the option I would get". He finally said that he ordered it for me as he knew everything I wanted. I bought it that day, if course I was under no obligation but I enjoyed that truck immensely.

A little over reactive maybe !! Most likely the last person who went to close the tail gate did NOT cloe it correctly. BTW the vin does NOT tell you if you have that feature, the build sheet/record will list it if installed. AND not all were built with that warning sensor. Mine does and works perfect, but you gotta make sure you actually close the tail gate up. Seen to many people sort of lightly close it up thinking it compkleted the latch and does not always. The problem is that the ailgate is lighter than before and people think because it is light they don'tg have to put much energy into closing it. Also to say won't buy another for a one off BS reason means you just want any excuse to not have it. Good go trade it for some other POS and let someone who will appreciate it getg itg off the usedf lot. Cheers

I've had trucks for a while now. First one I had to deal with was an Isuzu Pup back in 1986. Regardless of brand, when I close the tailgate, I give it a quick tug to see if it stays shut. So far my method works pretty well.

If I didn't do this and the tailgate fell down, I wouldn't crap my pants over it.
