When I bought my 2019 1500 Classic I did not purchase an extended warranty because I seldom keep a vehicle long enough for the factory warranty to expire. However, I think I'm going to try and keep this one because, well, I'm sick of truck payments. Have any of you purchased an extended warranty after the fact? Which did you purchase? How much was it?

My dodge dealership sold me on some extended warranty thing for my Charger. We went ahead and got it. About a year into it, I got a letter about the warranty and what it actually covered. It was a joke. I canceled it and didn't pay a car payment for several months because of how much it cut off my cost. IMO really look into it before saying yes.

You could ask what ever shop you use if they have a preference, although they probably wont. I know the multi brand dealers in my area typically sell an aftermarket contract, but they sell it because it pays out and is easy to work with.

Another option is go through your car insurance company.

Thing is, any decent contract is probably going to cost you ~$3600+ or so at this point. To me, I'd rather save the cash and wing it unless maybe the truck is fully loaded and the contract covers all the things.

You can still buy the Mopar Extended Warranty as long as the Factory Warranty is still valid
So i bought the Mopar Extended Warranty just before my Ram had turned 36,000 miles on it.
At that time the factory warranty was 36,000 miles or 36 months.

Now pay attention :

Only buy a Mopar Extended Warranty
Do NOT buy a dealership special warranty

The dealership warranty is only good for just your State & maybe a few surrounding States

The Mopar Extended Warranty is good at any FCA/Stellantis dealership in Mexico, Canada & the USA

Your dealership's price on the Mopar Extended Warranty, can usually be beat
after getting your dealership best price, check out this site & others like it

^ I did a very similar thing. Got a good price for an additional 3/36 bumper to bumper with a $100 deductible.

Stated above, read the coverage and do a search. Rental coverage is a joke, and some things may already be included in your auto insurance policy, AAA, etc. Possibly one of the most accurate statements is that if companies didn't make money on them, they wouldn't sell them. But if it gives you piece of mind, shop around as you may get better coverage and/or cheaper rates and third party policies don't lock you into one type of repair shop. And also stated above, some insurance companies have the extended warranties as well and putting the policies together may get you more discounts. Good luck.

I bought my 19' Ram last March with 9k on the clock, as of today im just over 36500 miles (I drive alot LOL) I thought about getting the extended warranty, I would have to get the 7 year 100K to cover me because from what I read it extends your warranty from the original build date and at this rate ill be at 100K in no time

You better check your Factory Warranty
If it still 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first

You may have too many miles to qualify for the Extended Warranty

I would think that your dealership would have informed you about that, in my mind they should have
After all, they see the mileage every time that you take it in for an oil change.

I see why they no longer offer the Lifetime Extended Warranty

recently Chrysler discovered that lifetime contract holders on average were keeping their vehicles seven years. These customers still needed the unlimited mile portion of the plan so they replaced it with five, six or seven years unlimited mile choices

This is the kicker:
( It should read this helps Mopar save money )

This helps customers save money! So we still offer the same great Maximum Care coverage (Bumper to Bumper) but now with a year max.

GTYankee...yup. Bought an extended warranty for my wife's Sienna. Total joke. Bought the factory lifetime extended warranty for my 14 Ram right before they quit offering it. Covers almost everything forever. The dealer service manager said this is one of the few that isn't a joke and he can understand why FCA dropped it, and since I keep my vehicles until the wheels fall off, it gives me some peace of mind. Not sure tho if there's anything out there that's comparable.

Yep, as others have said, factory or nothing. And just because the dealer sells it doesn't mean it's factory. I also bought a Lifetime Maxcare back in 2014 and still have the truck. I paid around $2300 from one of the online places shortly after purchase. So far I've receives about 3X what I paid in repairs and I'm not considering getting rid of my truck anytime soon. I can see why Ram is sorry they sold those warranties.

As for OP's ability to buy a factory warranty, it all depends on your, "in service date". 36 months from the day it rolled off the lot new.... or 36K miles.

https://www.chryslerfactoryplans.com/process/quickquote.aspx?type=primary AKA Zeigler sells factory Mopar plans for FCA products older than 3 years and more than 36K miles. I plugged in some random numbers (2015 Charger RT, 52K miles) and it came back with plenty of decent options up to an additional 5 years 75K miles or 4 years unlimited miles. It may be worth looking into for the OP if he has timed out on the factory warranty.

Just checking to make sure I have the correct info on the FCA Max plans. If your vehicle is down in excess of 24 hrs you would be entitled to a rental / loaner? I'm wondering because with the current chip shortage posing potential extended down times, my only alternate transportation is my motorcycle and that could be a problem.

I think to get the Mopar warranty it has to be within 48 month/miles, it definitely is not 3/36.

IT depends on a couple of things.

IF your Ram was a certified pre-owned Ram then, yes it starts from original in service date (date originally sold - not built).
BUT CPO's come with a 7/100k powertrain warranty free when you bought the truck - so I would confirm that this coverage is in effect AND an extended MOPAR service agreement will cost less than if it wasn't a CPO - I would rec. the MaxCare plan.

IF your Ram was a "used" truck and not a "certified Pre-owned" then the Mopar extended agreement is for a used vehicle and would start at the day/miles that you purchased the truck at - but there may be a time limit on which you can purchase a used policy from the day you bought it.
