I removed heads and lifters first. Half the battle refers to Disassembly and now, reassembly... lolThanks for sharing, did you get lifters out? Or I guess that is why you say half the battle, lifters next.
YesCurious...can you remove the cam on a 5.7 without removing the heads?
Do you have a pic of the lifter for this lobe? How about a couple more pics from different angles of damaged lobe? After many hours of intensive labor, I got the cam out. 185k miles, started ticking at 140k

I have another post showing the seized lifter. The cam lobe is almost completely round. The head was carboned up because exhaust port was barely, if at all, opening. I can attach more pics when I get home this evening.Do you have a pic of the lifter for this lobe? How about a couple more pics from different angles of damaged lobe?
I'm trying to wrap my eyeballs around the shape of the lobe and where the d aimage is relative to peak lift. All just curiousities on my part, scrap it if time consuming.
I'm Impressed it made it as long as it did after first tick heard (fth). Red Line oil?
The note at the bottom might interest you. This is from the 700 page printed owners manual for my 2014.You used to be able to get this manual from FCA,as far as i know, this printed manual is no longer available though, but even FCA says 5W-30 is okayI have another post showing the seized lifter. I used redline one time around 70000miles, then went PUP 5w20. I changed every 8 to 10k miles.
I actually meant 5w30 lolThe note at the bottom might interest you. This is from the 700 page printed owners manual for my 2014.You used to be able to get this manual from FCA,as far as i know, this printed manual is no longer available though, but even FCA says 5W-30 is okay
I am not replacing timing chain this go around. Mainly cus $$ and I am maintaining timing to minimize difficulty. THis is my first time this deep in an engine.@CunningStunt I'm curious if you're replacing or reusing your timing chain? And/Or have at least inspected for stretch? I ve got approx 125k miles on my truck and wondering if I should plan to replace while there....probably already answering my own question.
Also planning to reuse or replace head bolts?
Assuming this weekend will be your installations? Good luck! Ill be watching intently.
I don't buy this...I keep hearing this and I understand the "concern", however the lower end of these engines are tanky and even if I found metal, I would still move forward with a cam installation to buy me enough time to work 5 jobs for a few months to afford a new vehicle...Did you remove the OCV and check for any metal contamination? These engines are not supposed to be repaired of there are any signs of metal shavings from this failure.
Respectfully disagree. Ask any Chrysler Tech with some time under his belt. The head bolts are fine to be reused at least once and as for the metal, that cam over 40-50k miles and all the oil changes and a good oil filter, those bearings are fine. She was purring like a kitten other than wobble at certain rpm's due to the misfire.Metal in the Oil Control valve by the looks of that cam there is allot of metal in the engine meaning main and rod bearings, and head bolts should always be replaced
They're torque to angle.Head bolts are tty I believe, I personally would not chance reusing them.
Yes, torque plus angle. They're torque to angle.
