Been a minute since iv been on this thread

I think i did the first TB cleaning at 30,000mi or sooner.

Here she is with over 80,000 total. So 50,000+ miles without cleaning the TB.

Not bad at all IMO

Air filter side

Manifold side
wow on that, this isnt normal so don't use kyle's experience to put off TB cleaning :)

I wonder if oil choice helps keeping blow by out of your pvc? Cause you don't the catch can yes?

I'm pretty much convinced that it might be the usage of thinner oils that caused these lifter/cam failures on newer Hemis. And all in the name of better EPA ratings. For some people it has been fine with not a single issue. For others, especially those living in hot climates like myself, it has been tough. Of course that is just my theory. So now that I've changed all the lifters and I've broken in the rebuilt engine on Redline 5w30, I'm thinking of trying out the theory on my vehicle. I would use a good oil like Castrol Magnatec / Edge or Mobil1. I'm going to keep the OCIs short at 5000kms.
IMO using Redline 5w30 is the confirmed way to make sure that you don't ever develop the tick. But I want to know if using a 5w30 oil of any brand will give me the same results. I've heard from some guys on the BITOG forum who have used Mobil1 0w40 and 10w40 on their Hemi engines from new with short OCIs and have never had any issues. Others have used PP and PUP 5w30. So I'm hoping for positive results. The hope is that it will never have the tick again.
Good to try imo, then you will know your options, especially since availability if off.

Yah i was expecting some more carbon for sure.

So here is the “after” from today. Used CRC throttlebody cleaner, and a toothbrush. Absolutely Never use anything abrasive.

After today’s cleanup ⬇️
Manifold side (dirty side)

Ok and i found the pics from the 30,000 or less mile cleaning. Here is the before pic of that first cleaning at 30,000⬇️

Definitely worse on the one that had LESS miles on it. That one i used a variety of motor oils and viscosities.

The recent cleaning with MORE miles was mostly runs of all redline 0w40 and 5w30 (run separately)

That is really interesting, try this a couple times with the 5w30 redline and see if you still have to do this. As in don't adjust, just try what makes it tick with 5w20 and see if it still happens. The drain back valves don't work, oil is hot when you turn off your truck and there is zero chance that valve holds back thin oil under gravity. However, most hemi's when they park are level and due to filter location it holds oil at least in the filter. My guess your situation oil is not only not being held in lines, but actually draining from the filter as well. I really am curious if the 5w30 will help you here, if it will have more oil or film stay on the metal when you turn it off hot. I think common oil knowledge will say it isnt gonna happen, but if nothing else we have proven common oil knowledge have some holes in it :)

If you ever do a relocate filter, you might want to tip the unit to match the parking angle if this is a permanant situation. But then it will be an issue when level, but I would want the first cold start protected more as opposed to when you drive to the store. Hella interesting case, just maybe 5w30 redline will work. I would never suggest the 10-48, but like I said interesting case, maybe this would work, dunno. The issue with the 10-48 is warm oil idle psi, but at the moment this isnt the issue. Then what if 10-48 works on start up and the 10-48 also keeps warm idle tick away. The fact is, it is good you are taking steps and trying stuff, these engines let you know when they arent happy, and with cam/lifter issues being so prevalent, it sounds like maybe you are close to the sweet spot. Just maybe 5w30 solves everything, if so stay with bigger filter imo.

It has mainly been with 5W-30 that I have noticed it, also does it on 5W-20 though. It normally parks flat inside the shed, its just when its outside the shed (and I'm doing something in the shed that needs the car outside for a few hours) that it is parked nose downwards at a reasonably steep angle. It doesn't tick on startup after being parked on an angle, I just back it into the shed and leave it level. It ticks on startup the next morning. The way to stop this is allow it to run a little while once reversed into the shed, and then give it some "high idle" throttle before stopping it. Then it does not tick the next morning. I don't think it makes any difference if the oil is cold when I move it out of the shed and park it or if I've been out and get home and park it on the slope, hence the oil is hot.

see you guys in a week if I survive, damn weeds are 7 ft this year double their usual size, who knows what lurks in dem weeds. Gonna work that weed eater something fierce. Rain and winter was unbelievable this year and the weeds to seam to prefer those long winters. The entire patch is over my head, lol. I been admiring my neighbors and their tractors, but the slope grade is too sharp here, it's weed wacker or fire, and since I don't want to go to jail, it's weed whacker. But I at least thought for a minute on the fire part of it.

Hope you dont get the big dry spell next and it all that green foliage turns into kindling

Lotta people in Michigan have been talking about how you guys are getting so much more rain right now. We’re wondering how lake mead is doing.

Us Michiganders always hear about the states that want to take the water from our great lakes

I have it down to a science, after last rain wait 10 days to two weeks and the weeds are dry enough to cut and you only have to do it once a year, but still green so no fire danger. Green but not saturated like right after a rain, good luck cutting these weeds a day or two after last rain.

I literally have two gallons of pererithrin, that stuff is gold.

I was thinking about a different lake in CA, fed by same source as mead but they wont divert water any longer to it.

Changed my Redline 0w-30 sn to the new sp version. Only drove it a couple miles so far. Hoping it’ll stay smooth and quiet. Time will tell. I also run Lubegard in every oil change. IMG_0231.jpeg

I’m wondering how LiquiMoly Ceratec compares vs Lubegard Biotech.
Lubegard is known as a great moly and Zinc additive.
What would you use any of them for?

This thread is sooooooo long.

Can anyone enlighten me please on the short version of it by giving me the TL;DR?

Thank you!

Gotcha! So, this place seems like a fun spot to just hang out, chat, relax, and have a good time. You guys seem to talk about all sorts of things, share opinions, crack some jokes, and maybe even have a little debate. Sounds like a cool place to be if you ask me, and I'd be happy to join if ya'lll will have me, of course. :D

But on a serious note I have a question been bugging the hell out of me. If dog years are 7, what are truck years?
