So I got the factory Mopar lights free from the dealer but didn’t have them install them as I didn’t want the factory method. Added a Curt #56584 harness between the 7 pin tow jack, spliced in a Blue Sea waterproof inline fuse and tapped power from that. Finding a factory ground point on the frame near the airbag helped a lot. I contemplated many methods and locations for a bed mounted switch but nothing really worked until I noticed the hole in the bed sidewall next to the tie down.

The hole just happened to measure out to 3/4” or there about. Dremeled back the spray in liner inside the hole and the Rigid waterproof switch fits like a glove. Used half of the factory light loom and the rest to make up the ground and switching connections. All connections are soldered, liquid taped in looms with friction tape at the important spots. When zip ******* looks factory installed. Installed the new Bedrug XLT Bed Mat too and it works great. Best thing is I can turn on the lights whenever without having to go to the cab and the bright switch makes sure I don’t forget to turn them off!

That looks awesome. Unfortunately, my 2014 doesn't have the open spots for those lights to go in.

Guilty ... Reviving an older thread! Nice work on the lights and switch. I can see myself doing something similar to my new 2019. I didn't think of it as dark in there until I installed the Lomax bed cover and got in to check for water leaks. Thanks for sharing.

@Razzman, Is this the Rigid switch you used?

I also installed custom bed lighting in my 2016 Ram a couple of months after purchasing it new. I found on Amazon a bed light kit with two 60" led strips for $39.00 and I added a weatherproof three position switch and a magnetic reed switch. The up position on the switch turn the strips on. The middle position is off. The down position on the switch allows the strips to be turned on when the tailgate is opened and off when closed. All of this done for $50.00. 20190503_001003.jpg 20190503_001039.jpg 20190503_001003.jpg

Finally got mine installed, went the same route as @Razzman, factory kit but wired with switch in bed and Curt harness. Little more tedious that I expected, but got-r-done.

I'm glad you guys keep posting in this thread... I've got a set of LED strips that I'm gonna use for the bed and toolbox just sitting in the shop. Plan on using some magnetic switches to operate everything, but we will see!
