I’m running a 2017 I bought new back in May of this year, has 14000 miles on it, GDE tune and race pipes, it runs great so far. Before the race pipes I was getting 27mpg hand calced with 3.92 gears. There are many horror stories but no one logs on to the internet to talk good about their stuff. Usually it’s to mash keyboards when you’re pissed that stuff is breaking. Always read with a grain of salt

0I've got a GDE tune in mine as well. It only has 5k on it at this point. I'm averaging 27 hiway and city but I like to roll about 73 which just kills your fuel mileage. I really like this rig. I have a 2016 jeep which has the eco d in it as well but it has 55k on it.

On edit: We did have a problem with the Jeep at one time. It went into survivor mode (no power) and had some message about something. Went to the shop and 3 weeks later they said all they could find was maybe a loose turbo clamp. Have not had any troubles since. It averages about the same as the pickup but does not have the GDE tune.

Had 2 2016's. Absolutely the worst trucks I ever owned. Weekly trips to the dealership. Ram took the first one back and offered to replace the 2nd one with a hemi. All highway driving at 75mph. Could not get 35k out of an engine. First was a Longhorn and 2nd was a Limited. Told Ram rep that I was going to buy a Ford and did. Ecoboost with 2 turbos. Wish that Ram would turbo their little v6 engine. Might come back.

I have a 2014 Eco. The motor was replaced sat 26k miles. I’m not sure what the problem was but I have an extended warranty and the additional cost was well worth it. I have 26k on a 2016 motor with no problems. The mileage is super. 28mpg at 78mph on the highway and the truck is strong.

I have a 2014 Long Horn diesel 1500 and am having a reoccuring problem with the air suspension. Suspension loses the nitrogen charge and goes flat, making vehicle ride like it has no shocks. Have had it to dealer 3 times, they recharge system and claim they can't find problem. Looking around on the web I have noticed this is a common problem. I talked to Ram factory customer service and person I talked to admitted the problem is very common and they have no fix. So, I have a $58,000 truck with no fix and Ram won't do anything about it. I know they know what problem is but are unwilling to spend what it takes to fix it. I will be filing a complaint with my state's Attorney General's Office of Consumer Protection and would advise others to do same. The replacement of the systems is thousands of dollars.

Have a 2016 ED Long Horn w/ all the usual "creature comforts" and it has been fantastic! 33K on it now and tow (w/ease) my '29 Model A). Excellent in snow and smooth on the Interstate. If I drive at 67 I'm close to 31mpg....at 74+mph it drops to 27 which is still dang good! I'm an old guy so hoping this will be my forever vehicle....Cheers!

Any Ecodiesel Owner here?

Ive been looking at ecodiesel, The Fuel economy is insane! 30mpg-25mpg city.

For those that have them, Did you have any mechanical problems with yours?

been looking at 2014 to 2016 years.

I bought a 2016 Ram Eco Diesel 4X4 new from dealer, I have about 25K miles on it. Have had no issues with engine, runs great. Get a ton of compliments. My dad had a $75K Denali had engine issues at 10K miles and he traded it in. I also owned Ford Eco Boost prior, V6 4X4. Had tons of lag, also MPG was terrible. Never got over 18 MPG. I traded at 7K miles.

My truck is Laramie trim. Alpine stereo with Subwoofer is best stock truck stereo by far that I have seen. Tech works great. Heated seats are awesome. Ride is quiet and smooth. Been very happy thusfar with the purchase

I've got a '15 Eco with 55k miles on it. So far so good, I love the truck. I have no GDE tune or performance modifications of any kind. It got great mileage when it was stock, but since leveling and putting heavier tires on the mileage has dropped. I can still get 27 mpg on the highway if I stay under 70, and around town is 20 mpg. The only maintenance issue to remember is oil changes are pricey. But they're super easy to do yourself. Go check out ram1500diesel.com for a lot more info.

I have a late 2017 with Eco. I did hear the early years had problems, primarily EGR related. I only have about 4000 miles on it so far. My real mpg numbers are : around town, averaging 22, highway 70 mph get 28 (level, no headwind). Might still be improving a little.
truck:4x4, crew cab, towing pkg (mirros, brake, hitch), rustproofing on bed and rocker panels and fender lips. Weathertech bug/stone guard and mud flaps.

I live in Ontario Canada and have a 2016 Limited EcoDiesel and like all others on here with one, love it. It has 70K kms and I have not had any issue with any component of the vehicle. I bought the extended warranty as it included the oil changes for 4 years (10 in total) which at $300 per here at the dealership paid for the warranty as well as gave me the additional time of the rest of the vehicle. The warranty cost me $2400.

My life to date mileage is 10l/100 km almost exactly to the 10 (23.5 MPG) for combined driving which is about 40/60 city/highway. This includes the towing I do in the winter with a 7x14' enclosed trailer for snowmobiles as well as the trailer in the summer for other purposes (about 1/6 of my total mileage). On the highway the mileage goes down to 7-8/l/100 km or 31.5 mpg. When pulling the trailer, the mileage is around 16l/100 km (14.7 mpg) due to the wind and weight. I came of a Mercedes Benz GL350 Bluetec (diesel) where I must have had over 30 different visits to the dealership to address sensor issues or other problems and with 165K km's the engine developed a significant issue with the intake (known issue), just after their extended warranty expired, which basically made it uneconomical to fix even though the vehicle was worth around $20K as the cost was around the $8K mark.

Like I said earlier, I love my RAM with the air ride as it is smoother and quieter than the MB and it gets better fuel economy. I am cautious with the vehicle in the winter, using the grille cover, and plugging it in when the temperature drops below -10C. My only concern is that there is no heater on the DEF tank which can freeze, so I do not fill that tank full.

Am just waiting for 2020's as there are no 2019 ecodiesels in the new body style, and also want to get the first year kinks out.

Yes the fuel economy is insane for a 6000 pound truck.

31mpg highway never below 22 mpg in town.

Its insane.

Im thinking of getting one, but im not sure i read many horror mechanicals stories about it. I want something reliable.

Been looking at 2014 to 2016.

Did they change something on 2016? Maybe more reliable?

Mine is a 15 ecodiesel with 60,000 miles, it's been a decent truck.
I really like the way the engine pulls and runs.
I get good mileage winter will be 20-22 and summer 22-24 for every day driving.
I have gotten 26-28 on trips. I do run a heavy load range E tire which does hurt the mpg.

Hi, where and from whom did you purchase your extended warranty from? Thanks.

I purchased the truck and Ram warranty from Menzies Chrysler/Ram in Whitby Ontario. Easy to deal with and wouldn't hesitate to head back - service is ok.

I have had a 2016 Ecodiesel since January 2018 with no problems after 43,000 miles and wouldn't trade for anything else. I had an '02 Ram 3500 Cummins 5.9 diesel dually with nothing but problems at 94,000 miles. Had it towed more times than I can remember.

No more Cummins for me!

I've got a 2016, purchased used with 31K miles. It currently has 72K and the only issue I have had was a leaking EGR cooler which I believe was leaking when I purchased it. Over the first few thousand miles I noticed the coolant in the reservoir going down. I added about 2 gallons periodically over the first 8K miles and never noticed any external leaks or coolant in the crankcase. Have some experience in the heavy duty truck industry and suspected the EGR cooler. It was replaced at 40K and haven't had any problems since. My ECO has a 3.92 rear end and it is great for towing. Fuel economy has been at best 26.5, about 16 when towing my boat up north. City I get consistenly 20 to 21mpg. Love the truck and its performance.

PS. If you expect performance like a Hemi and pulling power like the Cummins I would suggest you not purchase one.

Recently bought a 2014 Laramie Limited Eco-Diesel with 90k...when I picked it up the trip meter registered 3477 miles with a 25.4 mpg...I had a 800 mile drive home and when I arrived 30.8 mpg...I live at 7450' and town is 6518'....up and down the mountain averaging 29 mpg+....read about issues and a fair amount were caused by the wrong oil being used at changes and ran across 2014s with up to 195k with no problems. Truck had installed custom exhaust by Flo Pro & a tsperformance.com module adding 50hp...I have added a K&N air filter...this truck is fast and mileage is not below 28.5mpg. I have only put on 2k miles so have my fingers crossed and better get an extended power train warranty....this is my second Chrysler Corp truck of the 5 trucks I have owned and have the air suspension with the 8.4 navigation screen...so far I am very happy with my purchase but plan on doing my own oil changes.:Caffeine:
