Who to believe?
A “defeat device”, aka cheat device, is a piece of software installed in a vehicles control unit, aka powertrain control module (PCM), that can detect when a vehicle is undergoing an emissions test and change the vehicles emissions performance to improve results. Basically telling the test that everything is working correctly, the DPF, SCR, DEF, and EGR are all doing their job when it really is not. Well if that was really the case then owners would be able to tell otherwise with no DEF consumption or after exhaust smell, presence of dirty black smog and greater than estimated manufactures rated fuel milage. So why would a 100 year company with a clean track record been “allegedly” installing defeat devices? Back in 2022 Cummins GROSSED over 22 billion dollars and has an amazing 60,000 employees. So a “civil fine” of 1.675 billion is hardly a drop in the bucket for them. BTW all military vehicles Cummins provides engines for have no emission control systems per government requests. So does Cummins really deserve this punishment? Did they really do anything wrong? Maybe, maybe not. They say they had no wrongdoing. As an American company, I’d like to believe them. A company with a very clean track record that has sustained a very long time making some of the most important engines in our vehicles history. The food we eat, essential goods and fuels are mostly delivered by diesel trucks with Cummins engines. If you ask me I don’t think Cummins did anything wrong and the EPA doesn’t need 1.6 billion dollars from allegations alone. There is no public information on any EPA investigations, tests, evidence or findings of guilt that I’ve heard of or been able to find to support the DOJ’s accusations and filing a civil penalty upon Cummins. So when did this all begin? Well, like everything else that has happened, ever since the last administration took office and Biden assigning democrat Michael Regan as head of the EPA. Furthermore, with reports from those that have had the recall done and found no change in performance, it leaves me to believe there was never a defeat software installed to begin with. It is of my belief it's all a false allegations to get 1.6 billion in return. So who can we really believe?

My self I believe Cummins over CRAB/EPA soy boys who all hate ICE... I recall back around 2007/2008 reading about how bio diesel mix fuel was said to put out more Nox then straight #2 diesel, sad to say I do not recall what state that had wanted to prohibit and or restrict Bio diesel usage due to its higher Nox output..

Does anyone have an information as to what FCA Emissions recall 67A is and what is involved? Even all my dealer can tell me is that its something with the PCM and would need at least a half day with it. Something doesn't seem right to me.
Lots of information has come out about the emissions scam to allow 2009-2020 diesel dodge trucks to pass epa standar.

HAS ANYONE HAD THE UPDATE DONE TO THEIR TRUCK IM TRYING TO FIND OUT IF IT WILL DIABLE AN ECM OVERWRITE FOR A DELETE IN THE FUTURE.

These guys below may know. They're one of the last outlets. I believe for the newer trucks with a locked pcm you have to swap it out. But I think the recall locking your PCM is a rumor personally. But I'd like to know too.

See what they have to say and let us know.

TFL posted a video about the alleged Cummins cheat. They went over the details pretty well and I was surprised to see, in the settlement with CARB, Cummins will upgrade 27 locomotives with clean exhaust diesel engines or electric motors. This whole thing stinks.

That it does. Throw 1000's of demands on the engine makers and then sue the crap out of them when they are off by a little, even though they can't show it was done on purpose.

I have a friend that had it done on his 17 2500 while it was in getting a new VGT actuator that had failed. He doesn't keep explicit logs on Mileage or DEF usage but he said he isn't seeing any difference that are jumping out saying there is a difference.

Well, that's not going to generate a lot of clicks on YouTube. ;)

I'm wondering why both Cummins and the EPA are so closed mouth about the actual issue with the "emissions". First reported as a "defeat device" but the fix is a software reflash. I'm starting to think, call me a conspiracy theorist if you want, that there isn't a real issue but nothing more than money laundering. Follow the money, where in our government is the money going, how many times is it divided up, which departments are getting the funds and what will they do with the money.

Something is going on here, whether it is legitimate or not is the question.
Not to drag this anywhere political, but my wife (not gonna say where she works), her paycheck comes from the dept. of agriculture and and she’s in the medical field. Makes you wonder.

You're right because everybody wants to jump to a worst case scenario right away and if there really is no difference people will just make crap up to stir the pot.
Theres a few over at the Cummins Forum now that have had it done and put some miles on their trucks and noticed a pretty drastic decrease in MPG..whether that pans out to be an across the board thing remains to be seen I suppose.

There are also some over there that said they have noticed zero difference.

I received the recall notice, I cannot renew state registration with out passing emissions check., I've been having check engine lights with an emission warning codes. I had it flashed at the dealer per the recall and now my computer doesn't communicate with my turbo. 2018 3500 6.7L Cummins. Getting tried of this crap.

I had just read it was not yet a requirement in CA to renew registration... Also how would they prove you have received one in the mail?

Yes I'm in Colorado, I have to pass emissions every year. They will automatically fail you if your check engine light is on.

Which is why I said it remains to be seen if its across the board, or if it is possibly determined by driving style, weight towed, etc..
