Ok, so I'm new to the world of tuning and thought I would provide a look at how this worked out for me. This might be a bit long but here we go:

I'm basically looking to get a tuner to wake my truck up a bit and hopefully see some better gas mileage. I am also looking forward to increased performance when I need it. So, here's how things went for me:

First, I researched and decided that the Diablo Intune DCX was what I was going to go with. Based off of members' recommendations I called Matt at Moe's Performance. He answered all of my questions (I was still hesitant about this whole thing and after the conversation he put my mind at ease.) and eventually I ordered it. Shipping was fast and I recommend Moe's to anyone looking to beef up their rig.
Next after waiting a few days...the tuner arrives!

I unpack and get to work. Here's a tip, some people complain that the DCX feels "cheap" and I get that but considering what it does, I'll live with it, my biggest problem is that I have sausage link fingers and the unit is touch screen and not really big. Do yourself a favor and use a mechanical pencil with an eraser to make your selections...goes so much faster!
Ok, now I hook it up to my PC, walks you through the process which takes a few minutes and then you're ready to hookup to the truck. I take it outside hook it up to the truck and it says that I need to install a PCM calibration from Diablo...back inside I go...hookup to PC and it takes maybe a minute to install the calibration...then back outside. I hook it up to the truck and it has to calibrate my PCM to work with the tuner.

While it is doing this, I'm seeing every light on the dash go on and my EVIC says "No Bus". At this moment I'm terrified thinking I just made a huge mistake and bricked my PCM...truth is, its fine, it is the trucks way of resetting the PCM to accept the calibration but it also does this when loading a tune. So, I load the calibration and then I load the 87 Octane Tune for my truck, wasn't sure what the Diablo Tune did but I had a full tank of 87. It took a few minutes to load and after cycling the key a few times...we're all done.

I unhook the unit and start the truck, nothing noticeably different. Now, I should tell you that I'm going to get a Hemifever tune loaded but he needs the baseline tune to work with...but I wanted to see what the difference of the 87 canned tune over stock would be. Well I can tell you the biggest difference I saw was throttle response...100% better over stock. It was 3 degrees out when I did this and I was actually scared to floor it because I didn't want to lose it in less than favorable conditions...I'll save that for another day.

Took it for a short test drive and I can say that the truck did seem a whole lot less sluggish when compared to normal. Nothing earth shattering but overall I can tell a difference. I'm looking forward to really seeing the potential of my truck after the custom tune.

Ok, so I've had the chance to load the HF 89 tune on my truck and all I can say is WOW! It's like I have a brand new truck. It simply pulls so much harder than before. I feel like I've got a major engine upgrade. The truck seems lighter...more peppy if that makes sense.

It doesn't "gear hunt" as much as it did while stock and passing someone on the highway almost seems effortless. Now, I should say, don't expect to go from a lawn tractor to a Ferrari, that is unrealistic.

However if you pay attention to your truck like I do, the difference is pretty obvious and simply makes the truck a lot more fun to drive.

Big shout out to Matt @ Moe's and to Sean from Hemifever, I am one satisfied customer and I'm very glad that I pulled the trigger on this.

It's late and I'm pretty tired (I have a 9 month old) but feel free to ask any questions about the tuner or this process, I'd be happy to help!

As I know you guys like:
Here's some pics.

Good write up man. I just installed mine today on my '14QC. I'm on the 91 tune til sean gets my custom tune done. I ended up getting mine directly from hemifever to save on the tax's since im in TX. (It took one day to get here). Mine took forever to get all the tuning done on the truck but worth the wait. I wanted to add that my issues were happening when I tried to change parameters on the 91 tune for the first install. This put the inTune into recovery mode causing the stock tune to have to be put back in. Once I got the 91 in the truck then I was able to go back and make my changes. At any rate since I bought the custom tune option I wont waste my time tinkering with it myself. again, good work man.

I had the hemifever tune on 93oct with moes 87mm throttle body, vararam intake and an 18" Magnaflow exhaust.

All in all, great power and hand calculated increase of 2mpg is what I got. I could get 18-19 on the highway (2013 1500 5.7L 3.55 rear with 6speed crew cab 4x4)

When I drove my truck to Austin in stock form to trade it in on my now Ram 2500 Cummins, I couldn't see over 17mpg on the highway.

Great write up! Very cool.

How much did the tuner run you? Also, do you know if this tuner is avaliable for 2nd gen rams?

Diablo doesn't have tuning for the 2nd gen trucks, but Hemifever can send you a tune via an SCT tuner. He tunes hundreds of 2nd gens with SCT.

Thank for the write up. I like long review. Keep the updates coming on your impression of the HF. Looks like I might be a customer soon.

The weather has been getting better so I've had a chance to open her up on the highway a bit. I have to say that I'm very impressed with this mod. I feel like the delay in my truck is gone and the throttle response is very on point. I'm running 10 ply A/T tires that weigh something like 57 lbs plus the wheel and I can light em up at will...the truck wouldn't do that before. I'm really curious to see how my gas mileage has been improved when I put my summer setup on, but that requires staying off the skinny pedal and lets face it...that won't be for awhile, lol.

Congrats on a fine choice, HF and Moes, are great.

Anyone looking to buy and undecided on a tuner, I borrowed a t1000 from guy at work. I simply ran a few 8.11 and 7.99 runs 0-60 stock And loaded the 93 to see difference. I'm running fairly consistent 6.45 0-60 with nothing more than canned 93. I can't wait to order a T1000 w/ HF tune.

great review! I'm not sure I want a handheld or wait for hptuners to release 2015 support...
