Ok, so I'm new to the world of tuning and thought I would provide a look at how this worked out for me. This might be a bit long but here we go:
I'm basically looking to get a tuner to wake my truck up a bit and hopefully see some better gas mileage. I am also looking forward to increased performance when I need it. So, here's how things went for me:
First, I researched and decided that the Diablo Intune DCX was what I was going to go with. Based off of members' recommendations I called Matt at Moe's Performance. He answered all of my questions (I was still hesitant about this whole thing and after the conversation he put my mind at ease.) and eventually I ordered it. Shipping was fast and I recommend Moe's to anyone looking to beef up their rig.
Next after waiting a few days...the tuner arrives!
I unpack and get to work. Here's a tip, some people complain that the DCX feels "cheap" and I get that but considering what it does, I'll live with it, my biggest problem is that I have sausage link fingers and the unit is touch screen and not really big. Do yourself a favor and use a mechanical pencil with an eraser to make your selections...goes so much faster!
Ok, now I hook it up to my PC, walks you through the process which takes a few minutes and then you're ready to hookup to the truck. I take it outside hook it up to the truck and it says that I need to install a PCM calibration from Diablo...back inside I go...hookup to PC and it takes maybe a minute to install the calibration...then back outside. I hook it up to the truck and it has to calibrate my PCM to work with the tuner.
While it is doing this, I'm seeing every light on the dash go on and my EVIC says "No Bus". At this moment I'm terrified thinking I just made a huge mistake and bricked my PCM...truth is, its fine, it is the trucks way of resetting the PCM to accept the calibration but it also does this when loading a tune. So, I load the calibration and then I load the 87 Octane Tune for my truck, wasn't sure what the Diablo Tune did but I had a full tank of 87. It took a few minutes to load and after cycling the key a few times...we're all done.
I unhook the unit and start the truck, nothing noticeably different. Now, I should tell you that I'm going to get a Hemifever tune loaded but he needs the baseline tune to work with...but I wanted to see what the difference of the 87 canned tune over stock would be. Well I can tell you the biggest difference I saw was throttle response...100% better over stock. It was 3 degrees out when I did this and I was actually scared to floor it because I didn't want to lose it in less than favorable conditions...I'll save that for another day.
Took it for a short test drive and I can say that the truck did seem a whole lot less sluggish when compared to normal. Nothing earth shattering but overall I can tell a difference. I'm looking forward to really seeing the potential of my truck after the custom tune.
