Figured I’d check here before going to the dealer. After starting Natasha, after sitting idle for 2 weeks, I find that I have a check engine light that won’t go away. I suspect that the cause is that I had a dead battery at one point. Completely recharged the battery on a trickle charge (2amp nominal) for a couple days and the battery seems fine now. It had drained due to some extensive time that the interior lights were on and my Dometic fridge was running to test it out. Anyway, other than normal loads that are present even when the car and all accessories are off, it’s all good. Drove it yesterday for about 20 miles and check engine still there. Everything seemed to operate/run normally. I also cycled the gas cap. Natasha has <6K miles on her. I’m thinking that I just need a reset from the dead battery condition. Anyone know how to do that? Thanks.

take it to a local auto parts store, most of them will pull the code causing the Check Engine light.
Post up the code and I'm guessing someone on the forum will have solution

Yea, just get the code checked out. If its battery related, reset it and move on....

You can get a scan tool for next to nothing these days and they are handy to have around. First thing I’d do is check and clear the faults and see if any return. Just went out and check if one of my cheapie scanners would check faults on my ‘20 and it worked fine.

Thanks. Just ordered the upgraded version. I had no idea these things existed.

Good to hear! I don’t have the exact one I linked but I have a couple of low end ones and they all work the same. The main thing is that you can check and clear engine control module codes. The factory scan tools and ones from Snap-On and the like are far more advanced and expensive.

After so many restarts without the check engine code active will also reset the light.

I got a code reader a few years ago. Great investment...especially if you have a newer Cummins. Darn check engine light was always coming on in mine.

I use it to diagnose my 99 V10 alot.

Great tool

Hi @SeaSickSailor - If you end up having to address this with a dealer, please know that we are just a private message away and more than happy to connect you with a specialist for further support through that process.
