im running out of ideas on this truck, ive replaced the water pump and the thermostat 3 times, currently running a 180 thermostat, newradiator, and ive just installed a flex a lite 183 eletric fan, and even with the fan running 100% in town the temp stays 195F-204F freeway speeds its at 206-208F driving uphill thru the canyon at 65 babying the truck it jumps between 210F-219F, where as my dads all stock 06 hemi stays at 206F everywhere and hauling a trailer thru the same canyon at 55 he gets to 210-212F max. i have no idea why my truck runs so much hotter then other hemis and im running out of ideas where to start. any help is appreciated

What oil and Weight are you using? Check your oil for signs of antifreeze and vise versa with the overflow tank. When is the last time you flushed your cooling system?

A 10 year old truck, make sure cooling fins in radiator are clear. Take an air hose and blow out bugs and all collected garbage. Could be just the reduced airflow.

Thanks for the replies, yes new radiator as of yesterday, and I was thinking head gasket too, but I have 0 signs of coolant in my oil, and my coolant looks oil free too was completely flushed yesterday when the new radiator was installed, I’m almost wondering if my sensor is bad and my computer is lying to me on the temps

Go get a chepo infrared thermometer and check the block when your temps start to rise. See if the gauges are telling stories or not.

I’m not to keen on programmers and what they can cause but someone does and will chime in.
Plus these newer trucks have a lot more complicated electrical systems so that may be the cause but again ,I’m not sure.

got a infared thermo on it, idlleing when the gauges said 200F with the fans full blowing, the temps i got with the thermo were 161F-170F upper rad hose, 181F the thermostat housing, and 184F on the block and 161-170F each cylinder head.

That’s what I’m thinknim going to try next because the numbers on my gauges are matching up to the temps the hand held thermostat is giving me

Did you mean to say (aren’t matching up)? 181* is well within operating range, 181 and 200* is a decent temp discrepancy.

I mean to say hand held thermometer, my edge tuner and my dash gauge are telling me my temp is at 199F-220f depending on load of engine and in reality when I cheack certain areas with a infrared thermometer it’s only 165-185F

Ahh gotcha, I thought you meant the infrared being the handheld. yeah then like said above, probably temp sensor.

Keep us posted and good luck.

well replaced the temp gauge and no better results, still staying at 194F-204F driving in town and at 206F-210F highway and under heavy load in the canyon or full throttle it instantly climbs to 215F-220F

Idk man, you’ve done just about all there is to a cooling system. Maybe your pcm isn’t relaying the correct temp. It’s these normally simple fixes that turn into nightmares with newer vehicles, ugh!

Yeah I’m at a loss of words and ideas as well, I’m going to try and replace the thermostat again see if maybe I got a faulty one
