I bought a used '09 Ram 1500 almost a year ago. About 7 months ago the keyless remote stopped working to lock/unlock the truck. It works if using it shortly after closing the doors, but after about 20 seconds it doesn't work. A month or so later, the clock stopped working. And then after another month or so the front left turn signal stopped working. Every once in a while the turn signal would work for a short period of time and then quit again. I bought new bulbs and replaced it but that didn't fix it. I even put the left bulb in the right side and it worked fine. I took it to my mechanic who checked the bulbs and sockets which checked fine. He swapped out the switch and everything would work again for a short time and then quit again. He thought I needed to take it to a dealer and have the body control module reset/reprogrammed. Somewhere along the line the left front bright headlight went out also. So I then took it to a dealer and told them the history. They proceeded to replace the bulb and socket in the turn signal and reset the module (the ticket doesn't say which module) for a "mere" $320. They said they fixed everything, but I tried the keyless remote when I got home (about 11 miles) and it didn't work. Later that night I checked the headlight it wasn't fixed and by the next morning the turn signal and clock had quit also. I took it back to the dealer and after nearly 3 weeks of having it sit at the dealer they finally tell me they don't know what is wrong but the want to replace the WIN module and see if that fixes it and since they weren't going to credit me for the $320 I'd already paid and wouldn't guarantee if it would fix any of the problems, in fact they said they didn't expect it to fix the bright headlight, I told them forget it. (I'd rather take it to another dealer at this point anyway).

Since the time I've had it back both the keyless remote and the clock actually started working for a couple of days and then quit. I have also figured out that if the blinker stops working I can shut the engine off and then turn the switch to "on" without starting it and then turn the blinker on at which time it will start blinking fast and then after about 30 seconds or so it will start blinking properly. I can then start the truck and it will work again for awhile, until I shut it off and run it with the switch in the on position.

Any thoughts? I'm still thinking it's the body control module myself - but sort of "afraid" of how much that will cost me.

Thanks in advance for any help!

The BCM or WIN modules are definitely the culprit here.

What I can't figure out is how stupid can the tech be that they can't find the issue.

I agree it's time to get to another dealer.

I can guarantee you the BCM isn't at fault, mainly because his truck doesn't have a BCM. The WCM is a likely culprit for his clock/keyless entry issue. The WCM is the time keeper.

As for the headlight/turn signal issues. I'd be checking the connectors for the bulbs. It's very common for the headlight connectors to have loose pins on the 09-12 trucks.

It sounds like some of his issues are an intermittent failure. Intermittent problems can be very tricky to diagnose, especially if the vehicle doesn't act up when the tech has it. Either way I agree he needs to find another dealer.
