well, that just delayed my new truck purchase until Christmas...I've been waiting for a 1/2 ton diesel for years. I can't wait to see the final US specs on it.

The HP seems a little low to me, looks to be more of a competitor with other V6 engines as opposed to an upgrade over gas. With diesel prices were they are the fuel mileage or towing capacity is going to have to be substantially more to really get people to buy these. Like the idea, but will remain cautiously optimistic.

They will have 240hp and 420torque stock. With a tuner you could probably easily get close to 300hp and 500torque.

Re: 2014 Ram 1500 Diesel confirmed

It would be nice if they turbo charged that small motor. Would provide more power and retain the good mileage. Unless it already is???

This would have been a real tough decision for us if it were out last Aug when we bought. The towing capability of the Hemi was more than we need, but 3/4 ton was too high, too rough for day to day use. A half-ton diesel might have been just the ticket.
So long as folks don't try to get a 3/4 ton or 1 ton of work out of it, it would have better ride quality and MPG than a similar Hemi 1/2 ton but with more torque. I think guys who say it has no place can't see the forest for the trees.

If they are using the VM A630, then this is what it has...

A single Garrett VGT 2056 turbocharger has variable turbine geometry

It has a turbo. It would be a dog if it didn't. And 240 hp/ 420 tq is nothing to sneeze at in a diesel. That's more than the first gen Cummins had...

I wonder if it will get an exhaust brake? :hmm:

The diesel threads need merged to one thread! Can someone on the mod team do that? would make looking at the posts easier.

240hp will be plenty. I'd like to see TQ around 500
When I first got my 97 powerstroke and it was stock it only had 225hp 500tq and would tow 12-15k with out any issues

I also think that'll have a heavier duty suspension then the gassers.

Negative that is stock numbers it will produce in the JGC. Diaz said that this engine will deliver best in class torque in the 1500. 420 is not best in class torque.

Gotta watch that "best is class" cause it will be the only 1500 diesel in it class so the tq could bee 100 and it'll still be best in class.

True Mike but considering no one else has a Diesel and for it to be appealing to other truck buyers I am sure Fred Diaz was comparing gas engines into the equations as well. I do want to put out another reason I believe this way is they did not say Best in class hp when it will clearly be lower.

The question comes is this designed to compete head to head with the ecoboost? If so, then the power needs to be higher. The ecoboost while being a six cylinder is consider to be in the v8 class because of its power and is marketed as a replacement to the gas hog v8. Until the numbers are released we can't really tell what market they are going after. Is this a fuel mileage truck or a power truck? This question remains to be answered. I am hoping for a v8 alternative, power with good fuel economy.

Pulled this from the Wall Street Journal article published a couple hours ago,
"The coming truck, which will arrive in the third quarter of this year as a 2014 model, will have a 3.0-liter V6 called the EcoDiesel, and an eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Chrysler said it expects this powertrain combination to give the vehicle best-in-class fuel economy."

If this does not excite you then sorry but you are probably dead inside. I have asked for this for years and finally it will be here. Now just have to wait for someone to buy one and trade it in so I can buy one used.
