Just installed 180 tstat and I'm not seeing the temperatures I think I should be seeing.

I believe I followed steps as I should..drain coolant, disconnect hose, replace thermostat (hole at 12 o'clock position), reinstall hose, refill coolant (1/2 mopar brand coolant and 1/2 distiller water), parked truck on incline and allowed it to run approx 5 min and didn't appear to need more (squeezed upper hose). Took truck around the block with a/c on high and coolant temp (according to display) ran up to 225 and I turned a/c off and limped home.

What did I do wrong?

Edit: Also is there an over-fill drain off?

AIR Locks are a *****. I can offer my solution that i have usd on both the 3rd Gen Hemi and LX Car Hemi. Let it warm up again and try either of the following. With cap off the overflow put your mouth over the hole where the cap goes on and blow. You will be amazed the system willl gurgle then the coolant will start to flow and the level in the container will go down then you can add the remainder. I use this method as a last resort so you can try my other method which tastes better but a tad messier. Loosen off the two bolts for the t-stat housing slowly then loosen the top one or the easiest to access one and loosen enough so you can pop it away from the waterpump housing and allow some coolant to escape then re tighten. A couple tries of that usually allows the air to escape and the hot coolant to touch the stat from inside the motor and allow it to open since the airpocket or lock does not allow this so the stat does not open. Just make sure if it gets too hot to shut her down and let it cool sufficiently and start the process again. Danny

when you went to burp out the air did you allow the engine temp get to 180degrees+?

5minutes shouldn't be enough time for it to get to operating temp

so park on an incline
remove the radiator cap
start the truck and let it run for a while until the temp gauge hits 180 degrees to allow the tstat to open up. then the rest of the air should come out of the system.

Okay I'll try the blowing method, seems the easiest. So I know are you referring to silver or yellow cover?

Do I need to pop the silver cap? In my above picture?

Way to go! My Rad Cap is on the overflow bottle on both my Hemi set-ups, thats looks like a good set up compared to the no cap on the rad itself Mopars. Danny
