I have a 2006 ram 1500 hemi and I have had this problem for a while now... For some reason when I go to start the truck and put it into drive or reverse the tran does not want to build pressure but if I put it in neutral and rev it and build pressure first its fine... but then after sitting for awhile once again does it..... has anyone else had this problem and.how did you fix it and how much did it cost..... the dealer said they.have.never seen this.

Sounds like you have a half manual-half automatic transmission. I'm not saying that's a thing, it's just quite odd. Have you tried taking it to any other shops besides the dealer? Also how many miles are on it?

That's not too bad for mileage. Mine's an '03 at 82K. And the tranny is still pretty sharp. I'd say taking it to a professional (besides dealer) would be best. Since other people have had the problem, there must be a way to fix it.

Sounds like converter drainback. It only does this when it has a chance to sit?

Never heard of this but that would be my 1st guess too along with maybe an improper fluid level problem. A new Tc, Hd shift kit, filters and sonnax should fix it.......joking aside if you avoid 2nd gear prime these trannys last a long time. What i mentioned would cost about 625 for parts and 10 hours of your time.

Hey I have the same issue. I've had it in the dealership for this and they called it a delayed engagement. They change the internal filters and said I was good to go. It still did it but not as much. I took it back and they said everything was good and it would not hurt it if It did it again.. I gave up on them after hearing that and now with 80,000 miles it still does it almost every morning and every time I leave for work. Kind of embarrassing and annoying.

I've been reading and like 03moparamman said a shift kit should fix the problem. Going to order one soon.

There is supposed to be a check valve in the TC. If this fails it doesn't really hurt anything but you have to give the pump a chance to refill the TC (fluid coupling doesn't work without fluid). This usually means giving it a little more warm up time.

I have an 05 1500 and mine does this as well. Dealer did the flush and filter change and it still does it. I've been looking for a fix for this for years.

There is a common issue with the check valve in the spin on filter, replace it with the new oem part number and you should be good to go. It's a fluid drain back problem.

good info....mine has started doing the same a few months back. However, mine does it after sitting all day at work, notice it more depending on how im parked. If the passenger side sits lower than the driver's side due to the slope of the pavement, it seems to happen the most.
