I just bought this truck and the guy told me it needed an MDS solenoid. I changed the bad one and it ran good, but the other ones leaked oil really bad. So.... I decided to get the MDS plugs and use a superchips tuner to turn off the MDS in the computer.

Well I got the mds plugs in and the truck all back together and now all it does is misfire with the P0300 code.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for any help.

Hows the cam shaft?

Look at Youtube for Hemi cam shaft failure.

it ran fine until I switched to those mds plugs. So not sure the cam would go bad all of the sudden?

Yea, after talking to AMS racing I was under the impression that I could just tune the MDS out of the computer and put the plugs in and that would be done. Well it didnt work.
So last night I ordered all brand new solenoids....

I dont think it hurt the truck at all, but I ordered all 4 new solenoids and just going to turn MDS back on. I plugged them because the other ones were leaking oil so bad....

Seen this happen before, you have to understand it as a system, not just the primary components. Default position for MDS is off. If you had just turned it off with a tuner you would've been fine. By removing the solenoids, you removed the only thing keeping pressure on the those 4 sets of lifters and they collapsed. You turned your 8 into a 4. If you want to remove the solenoids, you have to remove the heads and replace those 4 cylinders worth of lifters as well. You're on the right path, replace the solenoids, then use a tuner to turn MDS off.

I just used a superchips 3865 to turn off mds. What a difference! I just wish I could understand how to purchase and download the trans tuning to my tuner. Lol

Go to Superchips.com/updates, that'll be the page below. Download "Spark" to your desktop. Install the program. Been quite a while since I've done this, but once you load the program and hook up your tuner it should give you what downloadable options there are. Last time I hooked up my 3865 I got the trans tuning and performance datalogging (been like 8yrs OR so lol). If you don't have a cord to connect the tuner to your desktop or laptop (which has to be running a minimum of Win7) you'll need to get one.

I haven’t done a lot of research to figure it out yet, but I did notice on the superchips website that the 3865 doesn’t seem to exist..

Haha. I got a good deal on the 3865. Can I still get trans tuning options for it? All I want to do is firm up the shifts a bit.

and I want to apologize to op for hi-jacking your post

You SHOULD be able to, see if the update program has it as an option. If so, great, if not then you're not out anything and you can contact Superchips about it.
