Hi guys, i just got my first ever ram this past weekend and i plan on changing the exhaust after i get a few issues addressed. I'm leaning towards the magnaflow right now, as it seems to be the most popular choice. My question is, do you guys ever the pipe coming into the muffler after the y-pipe, or is it sufficient from the factory? Also, what diameter inlet outlets should i get for my truck? I plan on getting the 14" muffler and i like the exhaust out the back factory. Should i change the piping after the muffler, or just do a swap? Im not looking for obnoxiously loud, i enjoy the quietness of the interior when my wife is riding with me.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Mufflex 18 or 24 gets my vote! Heck, if later you want to do more, you can sell it on here and buy more, but if you want that nice V8 rumble and don't want to spend a fortune getting it, look at the Mufflex. It literally just clamps on in place of the stock unit!!

I bought the 14 on accident and am selling it locally to a guy, but I just re-ordered the 24 as it's still straight through design, but it's quieter in the cab.

Check out YouTube for vids of them. Type in Ram 1500 mufflex.

I considered super 40's, but there aren't a whole lot of videos to go by. If i go with the 14" magnaflow si/do, what size inlet/outlet do i need? Also, is there any need to change the pipe size going into the muffler or after the muffler?

Thanks.

Just get the Mufflex system. It's plug and play! Talk to Matt @ Moes!

Magnaflow Mufflex= stainless FM=aluminized steel.

Would it not be cheaper to just get a universal muffler and have it swapped in? I don't mind doing it myself, but the mufflex would to be welded after installation anyways.

Thanks

I think even with labor cost to have it swapped out, going with the universal fit magnaflow would be cheaper at the end of the day. Do you guys like to keep the resonators on, or take them off? Does it alter the sound a lot? Have any of you all just taken the resonators off the stick system and leave the rest stock? Sorry for all the questions, it's been awhile since I've changed my vehicle exhaust, and a first in the ram world.

Thanks.

My opinion is i think you would be happy with a muffler delete. Its not as loud as you think it be. I loved mine when i got it. I had no cab drone at highway speeds, but such a great tone when i mashed the gas. it was perfect. This is the cheapest thing, and you will be a lot more happy with this than spending money on a muffler then having the labor. It cost me 54$ for the exhaust shop to cut my factory muffler and weld a 3" diameter pipe in its place. Trust me on this one.
Now I loved it so much i now have my CATS hollowed out for an unreal tone! sounds cammed on start up.

Im sorry, my suggestion only works if you have a single inlet single outlet muffler. Even then i say go with a muffler delete. Matt at MoesPerformance i think sells a muffler delete with a ypipe collector for your truck if you have a dual outlet. no welding needed just remove factory system and clamp everything in.

That was actually my next question for you guys lol, you read my mind. Is the kit from moe's necessary though, couldn't a good exhaust shop do the same thing?

Anyone here with the 5.7 have experience with a muffler delete? Any loss of power?

Thanks.

yea a muffler shop can do it. Just provide them with the little y collector. There will be no loss in power id imagine freeing up the exhaust from a chambered factory muffler to a free flow straight through exhaust will improve HP/MPG (MPG is for the wife or mom that always asks if there is a need)

freeing up my exhaust on my 4.7 gained me .100 seconds at the track.. with traction issues so it might be a little more of a gain than that

Keep in mind, many muffler shops don't have stainless pipe or welding wire at their disposal! PLEASE GOD, don't mess it all up with steel and then have rust issues later on. Stick to stainless.
