Good morning!

I am new here and am jumping in to read all the threads, however, I am looking at a ONE OWNER 2013 RAM 1500 Sport. It is great condition, however, it has 90K miles.

The price is very reasonable but I am worried about the excess miles.

I would appreciate the opinion of current owners who are more educated about the RAM 1500 than I am. I've never owned a Dodge/Ram before. (Former Ford guy.....Don't hold that against me!)

This is what I know, but please ask any questions. I am thankful for your advice.

I see it has the 8 speed transmission which is a huge plus. The 8 speed transmission is extremly reliable. The mileage is getting up there a little but the truck still has plenty of life left. The biggest thing is how was the truck driven and maintained? You can have two trucks with the same mileage be in completely different condition. For me it would all depend on the condition of the truck and maintenence records and of corse a price that reflects the mileage. I don't have that many miles in mine yet but my dad has 150k on his and has had very few issues. You will have normal wear items such as wheel bearings, shocks, belts, hoses ect that may need replacing but the basic drive train should be ok. The main issue people have with high mileage Hemi's is broken exhaust manifold studs.

Thanks for your reply.

Carfax shows good records and also shows manifold replacement in 2016 and I am glad to hear about the transmission being reliable.

I have not yet seen the truck in person. The dealer I was working with on another vehicle is going to one of their associated dealers to pick it up for me to look at today. Pictures look good, but everything looks good in a dealer picture. I hope it is good shape.

If anyone else has experiences, let me know!

Thanks again

Personally i would hope for one with that amount of miles the price its really cheap. Keep in mind that with that amount you may need plugs, bearings, seals, fluid changes items i call "basic/ preventative" maintenance.

Don't mind sharing, what's cost? Now is the perfect time of the year to get a new 2016 sitting on the lot!
I bought my ram CC 1500, hemi 8 speed in July last year, took over $10,3000 off sticker.

Just an FYI.

I believe the 2013 Sport is the 6 speed. At least mine is. But I've had no issues with it.

$20,000. I am paying cash. A new one is just too much cash to part with. I'm good with a nice used vehicle. The mileage is just concerning to me, it might be the deal breaker

Thanks for seeing that. I believe it is just a 6 speed trans. I just found a discrepancy between their advertisement and the VIN window sticker lookup.

Does the 6 speed have more issues?

Seems to me that the mileage is already bugging you. That could live in the back of your head for quite some time. There is no exit for buyers remorse. Just saying

You are not wrong for sure. The mileage is bothering me a bit. However, this is a third vehicle I will drive maybe 5000 miles a year. I'll look at it in a couple hours and see if it is in good enough condition to offset the miles. Also, hope to get in touch with the previous owner and find out if highway only or if it had lots of towing.

I don't mind throwing rotors, breaks or bearings on it if I need to, I can normally do those myself unless they need a press. Mostly worried about major known issues that is common in these vehicles.

I see plenty of posts and friends who say "Hemi last forever". As a first time Dodge/RAM buyer I am just trying to educate myself.

8 speed was introduced to 5.7 liter Rams mid year for the 2013 model year.

Don't think so but almost everyone who has the 8 speed really prefer it. I like how mine is setup but I have never drove an 8speed

not knowing all the specs on the truck but just doing a '13 sport cc with 90k miles at $20k you are on the low side of KBB dealer price so according to them its not a bad deal.

I had a 2011 that I drove to almost 170k miles. The truck never needed anything except oil changes and air filters. It was a company vehicle and spent lots of miles on dirt roads. I did take really good care of it though as I was able to use it for my personal use. That 2011 was actually the vehicle that made me a believer in Ram products.

Thanks for all the input. The 90K mile truck had bad bearings. Dealer offered to replace, but decided to go with a 2014 1500 Bighorn with Hemi and 8 speed trans with 50K miles. It is MINT! Just need to add spray liner. Looks like I am an official member now.

Bought the NAV update tonight and it loaded without problems.

Reading the manual now.
