2013 Oil Leak @ Filter

Found oil on my driveway right after my 2nd oil change (@10k) and looked underneath to find there was oil everywhere around the filter.

Dealer visit - they replaced the filter and said it was faulty.

Couple weeks later, find oil on the driveway again.
Back to dealer.... Changed the filter again and says he cleaned it up.

Says there is a Starcase for this. The threaded pipe the filter goes on is not threaded enough and the filter will not tighten completely.
Had to order some parts (still waiting...) I searched but couldn't find the starcase online.

That's crap! I would keep going back until they got it right. Some dealerships blow my mind with the crap they do.

What happened to me once was the old gasket from the previous filter remained fused to the housing and the new filter was installed on top of the old gasket causing an unbelievable mess. Not saying that is what happened here but something to look out for.

If the filter won't tighten all the way, I would not be driving it. Not saying they are wrong but they should have noticed that the first time they replaced the filter. To me it seems like it was cross threaded or the wrong filter was put on. I personally would not be able to resist taking it off and checking out the issue under there.

I used to be a store manager at a vavoline instant oil change. i have changed a few hundred dodge ram oil filters. Besides the 2nd gen rams. I haven't seen one newer dodge leak from the oil filter. Not saying some wont or can't. If its installed properly it shouldn't leak. Plain and simple.

I saw the starcase note sheet so know there's a legit issue, whether or not it takes care of this i won't know until they repair.

2013 - started leaking when temps dropped

Just as you, 2013 with 10,300 miles and now oil spots in garage 2 of 3 nights. Taking it in tomorrow. Thanks for the advice on the filter........

I would look at getting a Amsoil bypass system installed and having the dealer pay for it. You can relocate your oil filter to higher up in the engine bay, makes changing oil a snap and it filters your oil better. It is the least they can do.,

I did my 1st oil change a few feeks ago on my 13' Sport.I was telling the wife how Pennzoil Platinum was $25 if you bought a 5qt jug vs $40 if you bought 5 single quarts.Well after crawling under my truck and realizing that o-reillys gave me the wrong filter i had to go back up there with info off here about the correct filter.Anyways as im laying under my truck trying to get the filter off(Which i realized 1 of the Avengers must be working for my dealership installing oil filters)I start telling the wife this is the reason why im gonna start doing my own oil changes again because of **** like that.Well needless to say i top the truck off with oil then crank her up only to hear alot of liquid hitting the ground.Upon inspection of the old filter i realized the old seal wasn't in the filter meaning it was stuck in the oil filter housing.My wife then proceeds to tell me "And what part was it you didn't like about the dealer doin it".Boy was i wanting to throw somthing at her.To top off my night i had to go back to wal-mart only to find that i bought the last 5qt jug and ended up having to pay $40 for the 5 single qts.Yea i was mad that night lol!!!

2013 work truck got it's first oil change about 3 weeks ago at 10k. No leaks yet.

So far the issue is appearing on the 2nd change per the posts.

Has the filter specs changed? Wrong filter listed as replacement?

I know the only thing that "changed" when I replaced my oil was the filter itself. The stock one was much smaller than the one I brought home (the one I bought was the Mopar one FYI, and it was the only one recommended). After doing some research, I found that the filter I bought was the same one used on the 2009-2012 Hemi engines, but it would still work, just a bigger filter. Almost 3k miles later no issues.

same thing happened to me twice so far. Both times brought back to dealership both times got free oilchange.

Do you have a bypass on your truck... I have one on my jeep... haven't put one on yet.

Mine just started doing this too, but only after it got down to 30 here in West Texas. Tried to take it to dealership in, 3 wks before they could even look at it. They suck so definitely not worth the wait. Oil levels are still good so have to keep an eye on till I can drive 3 hours to a better dealership
