2013 ram adding a backup camera

Is it at all possible to add a back up camera that will display on the 8.4 in screen?

I am having a heck of a time finding info on this.

For the '12 I think you had to have a dealer flash if you used OEM camera with OEM head unit. If you used aftermarket camera with OEM head unit you had to use a Lockpick I believe. The '13 is still too new for that kind of stuff I'm sure.

With 2013's being so new, all I can say really is ask the dealer. I haven't heard of any products working on 2013's yet.

I just went to my dealer and the parts guy called somwhere and they said it couldn't be done without loosing a bunch of features like heated mirrors, U-connect, and others. I am pretty pissed as the brochure has a note that the camera is a dealer installed option with the R3 System. He got a part number for the camera and it wasnt even priced yet. I feel cheated as the brochure and the salesman acted like it was no big deal to add one.

I ended up buying a truck with the BU cam already installed so I didnt have to **** with it later. It was an option that I had to have.

I bought my 13 just a couple of months ago, with the deal stating I wanted a back up camera installed. They did install the camera, but said the module for this was on back order. (ya right) Anyway, I did speak directly to a rep from mopar, and he said they would be available in February. He did not say, nor did I hear talk of losing other features. Hoping all will work as planned. I do have the 8.4AN.

I'm perfectly capable of backing my truck up without hitting anything. But I can guarantee you I can get closer to something without hitting it with a camera than someone without a camera. Especially backing in the spots where there is a small car behind you that barely shows up in the mirrors.

I'm starting to get there....I want to be lazy too. But then again, I got other things to spend money on at the same time...lol

I hear ya. I don't think would pay for an OEM one. I got mine for $100.

Back on topic, it's ridiculous how much these new trucks are locked down. I have EVIC but don't have the compass. I asked two dealerships if I could add it. They said it wasn't possible.

Here is what I recieved from Chrysler Customer Service on this issue. If anyone figures out how to hook an aftermarket camera to the R3, please let me know.

In regards to the matter you brought forward about the vehicle not being able to add the ParkView Rear Back Up Camera we are sorry to inform you that your dealership is correct in this matter. This feature is available as a factory install option and based on the vehicle wiring is not possible to be added as an aftermarket dealership install.
