Hi All been away for about 6 years got rid of my 05 and have been out of a dodge Ram or now just Ram since but two weeks ago I went looking for a truck and found this 2014 Ram 2500 Hemi 5.7 I done new the issue that could arise with the 5.7 with lifters but I wanted to have a go at one so I got it. They told me it had a miss but said we got got narrowed down to being a coil we move coil and miss fire moved bullsh** cause I soon found out they had replaced coil already to no avail anyway they lied got caught in it and helped with repair cost now on to my reason for the post. Now I have looked at a lot of images of the failed cam/lifter roller on the hemi but I have not seen one as bad as mine yet it looks like lifter may have turned side ways at some point to wear that ditch like that but the holders so no signs of that. I also found failure signs on 3 other cam lobes. Now I have never been one for half ass doing this type of work cause I do not care for coming back in there any time soon for something that could have been done now so I am having heads reworked new valve springs, new valve seals, new push rods, new oil pump, new timing set with both sprockets, new VVT valve and of coarse the failed cam and lifters, water pump belt. even with the miss already fell for the truck so I am ready to get the dang thing back on road 0212211150.jpg 0212211314.jpg 0212211204_HDR.jpg 0202210741.jpg

it was a fleet truck for a construction company I seen the idle hours right after I got truck seems like it was 4k I will have to double check when I get back to shop tomorrow when I go to finish prep for reassembly. the almost full horizontal mounted lifters just cant get enough oil to them rollers at least at idle anyway truck mileage is 254,500 so if it not been done once already I would be tickled if this one would go that far LOL

Truck looks nice and clean. Hopefully the deal was right for you. You figure the transmission is original too?

Every time I see one of these wallowed out cams, I feel better about cutting open my oil filters like I do after every oil change. I'm assuming you'd see metal in the filter oil change after oil change until the misfire happens.

cylinders look ok? Not all scored up? Remember, when the lifter roller siezes and gouges the cam, the metal bits go flinging all over the engine.

they Looked good thankfully but I do believe the other 3 can lobes are signs of the metal from the cylinder 6 cam lobe they are gouges hopefully it was caught in time before any metal got in bearings checked with scope on the cam bearings they looked good from what I could tell. so this morning its going back together
