Sometimes the canbus system gets angry and won't fire my HID's. Usually if that happens I have to turn the truck off, open the door then shut everything and restart the truck. If you get a bulb out error that's when the battery needs to be reset so the truck will attempt to illuminate the lights again.

I haven't had any issues for 2 years but now the truck gets grumpy from time to time.

I tried pos/neg to drain the power. Didnt work. No dash lights on. I had LED pods for a couple years. I unplugged them after an offroad adventure where I lost a couple. I just replaced them with the same ones and no dice

I press the button and the fog light icon illuminates on the dash.

Truck had factory installed fogs

Signs are pointing to the fog light switch but I'm not 100% sure that would be the answer

Check the fog fuse?
Just out of curiosity how are they wired I'm assuming 2 per side correct? If so remove 2 and test 1 fog per side.
Also did you change the fogs to led with alphaobd ?

Test the fog lights with the ignition on but the engine not running, this will rule out if it has something to do with a CANbus error.
If the fog light icon turn illuminates with the switch, I doubt it's a switch problem.

Correct! I have them 2 per side. I will run 1 per side and see what happens. I was trying to figure out which relay does operate the fogs. I have not flashed it with alphaOBD, I never had an issue when the last set of cubes were installed. I replaced with the same company

Ran AlfaOBD and it's stating open positive on left and right fogs. Could this be a bad relay or switch

Watching to see how this turns out. I had my left HID light go out and when I replaced it with the non-canbus had the flicker so I just ran it with the fog HIDs for about a week. Then both fogs went out at the same time. I tried new non-canbus hid just to see if that was it and nothing. Should one of the wires running to the canbus be hot? I tested and didn't get anything.

The system does not run on 12v so there shouldn't be any hot wires at that location.

If you have another relay in the box that's the same swap it into the fog location and test

Edit: Ignore. Read further down for no relay info

Well ****. Could it be at the headlight switch even though it is still illuminating the dash lights
Doubt that it's the switch, I believe it just sends the signal to the BCM to turn the lights on. Since your seeing the fog indicator turn on they should be turn on barring any electrical problems.

I realized the other day with the fogs active only they don't turn on till the truck is in drive. Probably has something to do with my alfa settings. But if I don't turn the dial to turn on the head lights the fog lights won't activate till I'm in drive.

So would the fault code mean a grounding issue? I'm still going to say it's the switch. It's either that or damaged wiring.

If your fogs are turning on when in drive, it sounds like they're set as your DRLs
You should also be able to turn the fogs on when the running lights are turned on. I drive around with the fog and running lights on a lot.

My DRL is set to the orange turn signals? Forgetting the proper verbiage.

Point is how many possible points of failure are we working with here?

Which have been identified and which still need to be tested?
