Been working on getting a 97 TJ fixed up for my brother since his ford 6.0 engine had some needle bearings make their way through the oil pump

How it started off:

Where it’s at right now (~50% done)

That looks great! I have a soft spot for those late 90's TJ's
Always been my favorite keeps as well! I’m jealous it’s not gonna be mine haha
But at least I get to build it and wrench on it which is half the fun of having a jeep

Brothers jeep is all finished up and made it to Illinois for him and I only lost the power steering hose on the drive up

He’s now using it as a daily driver and a weekend bow hunting vehicle

I’m gonna be curious for his feedback on how the falken wildpeak at3w do in the Illinois ice this winter

Looked at getting some centramatic balancing rings installed on the truck today. They don’t make any specific for ram 1500 but they had some for 5 lug jeeps
Used a step bit to open the wheel stud holes up and they are so close to fitting but are blocked by the Brake caliper. It looks like I’ll need a 3/8-1/2 wheel spacer to get the clearance I need

Ill need a spacer about the thickness of the blue hub centric adapter. Im thinking either 3/8" or 1/2". I would like to get by without having to mess with the wheel studs if at all possible.

HID low beam kit from Xenon depot on the way.
While I was on their website I saw the LED pod fog light kit from diode dynamics.. defintely looks tempting but $500 fog lights is quite a bit of money...

Tried to install HIDs in my low beams from Xenon depot yesterday. Right out of the box either the ballast, igniter or relay was bad and one wouldn’t turn on. Tried reversing the polarity just for kicks and it didn’t help so I guess I’m sticking with halogen bulbs. Once I get my money refunded I may look at the diode dynamics led fog light kit + a single row bar in the front bumper.

Today I did a tire rotation that was a bit overdue. These Cooper tires started cupping on the front and I’m hoping that by doing a diagonal rotation they’ll sort themselves out within 500-1000 miles

Front drivers side tire. Front passenger looked just like it
All 4 tires were set to 35 psi cold for my trip to Tennessee and back

This is my second set of Coopers that have done this to me (happened on my 4Runner as well) and I know it’s not worn suspension like everyone wants to try to say it is because my 4Runner did all 4 tires evenly and at the same time. Looks like I won’t be using Cooper anymore after this set and won’t be recommending them either

It's probably the alignment. In all my years owning trucks, it's always been the alignment when the tires cupped. Not enough negative camber or too much positive camber.

The troubling part for me is that on my 4Runner it happened equally front to rear and left to right. I have attributed that to having E range tires filled to 50 PSI on a vehicle as light as a 4runner. That was my bad, live and learn on that one
So far on this truck I have run these D load tires between 25 and 35 PSI and the fronts cupped equally left and right tire but the rears did not cup. I have been struggling with an alignment and cant for the life of me seem to find a shop that can get my steering wheel straight and stop the truck from drifting right...

Got all my parts for my next round of mods delivered. Hopefully I can finish them up by tuesday.
Going on:
- dual oil filter relocation kit
- -10AN hoses
- 2x RP 30-8A filter
- redline oil
- 13mm BORA wheel spacers
- centramatic balancing rings

Ordered an HID high/low beam kit from @Underground Lighting and it looks like its already shipped in the 20 ish minutes since I paid! Also got some Diode dynamics driving light bars for the sport style bumper on the way from the site vendor offroad alliance- they were $80 off from them vs full price at diode dynamics.
Wasn't able to get the oil relocation installed the other day- I ended up having to do tree work and that didn't leave me with enough time to thoughtfully install the oil filter relocation...

I think it’s time to cut my losses on the centramatic wheel balancing rings. The 13mm Wheel spacers that came in barely give me 6 turns on the lug nut and I don’t want to risk that. Don’t want to deal with replacing wheel studs with longer ones either and because the wheel spacers are custom they’re not returnable so I’m in the hole ~$350 for the balancing rings and spacers and that’s enough for me to call it quits.

Working on getting my dual oil filter relocation kit installed and wouldn’t you know it. The perma cool one has a pinhole in it from poor manufacturing and was leaking oil.. ordered a second Transdapt branded one that will hopefully be here tomorrow so I can get that finished up. In the mean time I might see if JB weld hi heat steel stuff will be enough to plug that hole.. I doubt i would trust it though so I’m not too sure on that.

Also finally getting my HIDs and diode dynamics bumper led bars hooked up. I’m tying the bumper led bars into the fog light circuit for now so I don’t have to put one of those cheap switches in my dash. Maybe once I add more lights or accessories I’ll add one of the switch centers and redo that.
These diode dynamic lights are ridiculously bright!

The 2 trees that look like telephone poles in the back of the picture are 300-400 feet from where I’m standing for the picture with just one 6” led bar

Well that sucks on both fronts. I was hoping to hear good things out of the balancers.

It would be doable if I put more effort into the balancers.. either have these wheel spacers machined down some or get 1/2” longer wheel studs. But I really just don’t feel like going through the hassle of changing wheel studs out. I was really looking forward to them working as well. Oh well.

At least my new oil filter housing should be here today so I’ll be able to get that on and back up n running. Sucks to have wasted 1/2 a bottle of redline filling the truck to find the leak

Well shoot.
My 30-8A does that same thing, I thought it was just me. Just a very small dot on the bottom that I can't get rid of, but never enough to drip off on the ground.

I'm using an Improved Racing mount fwiw.

that’s somewhat comforting to hear.. does it leak enough to pain your front crossmember with oil too? I drove about 50 miles last night after the install and there is a decent amount of oil on the front crossmember that the LCAs attach to

I don't think it blows back, I can look later when I head home. But I do only have one filter also.

I got the leak on the oil fliters resolved by switching from royal purple 30-8a filters to fram XG8A filters. No leak on the filter in 100 miles so far. But I appear to have a leak on the adapter end of the setup that attaches to the original oil filter location. The leak seems to be coming from the swivel joint on the AN fitting... so thats awesome. At this point I am fed up with it and being a daily driven vehicle this is not worth the headache/worry in the back of my mind about new leaks coming up so I will be ditching this whole setup and going back to the PITA oil filter in its original location. While messy it will be much less headache than always worrying about a leak.
Im sure the fitting leak is my fault. This is my first time dealing with AN style hose and fittings and I am sure I missed something somewhere- so Ill just call this a learning experience and move on.

I understand that feeling for sure, you could always double down and grab the PacBrake kit that comes with crimped lines and will still let you use a bigger filter in a better location.
