Just purchased ram 1500 limited and noticed a crack in the surround. Water does leak whenever it rains. Should I take it back to the dealer or try and fix it myself ? @ramcare

This is a common issue. You can take it to your dealer but you'll be on the hook for the cost of replacing your rear window since you're probably out of the original factory warranty. Extended warranties don't cover this apparently. Whatever you do don't let it go too long. We just went through this with our 2020 Limited. Same cracks in the rear window frame allowing water inside the cab. Water ran down the rear wall of the cab and took out the RF hub. Truck was totally dead. It was at the dealership for over three and a half months waiting on the RF hub, but it happened just before the warranty expired so it was covered.

The above is why every so often, I run my hand under the rear seat area to insure that it is dry and keep fingers crossed, bc unfortunately this is a well known issue and never really addressed by FCA, IMHO.

I see that there is a recall on certain VINs but not all. Extremely frustrating to know that they are aware of issues but not going to help all of us.

Not actually a recall. They issued a TSB for certain model years within a defined range of VIN's. There is a significant difference between a TSB and a recall. More importantly they also extended the warranty for the rear window and CHMSL, but again only for a defined range of VIN's. Basically covers all 2019, 2020, and most 2021 models, and extends the warranty to 8 years/150k miles for those trucks for the rear window. And 10 years/150k miles for the CHMSL.

Do you know if the extended warranty for the rear window and CHMSL applies to Canada too?

Good question. Maybe @RamCares can answer that one.

OP, I would call the dealer (or two) and give then the your VIN and make sure it not covered under one of the extended warranties before you try a repair yourself.
