While driving to work yesterday at 55mph on a country road in the pitch black dark of 5:30 am and pouring down rain the truck just completely shut down. Zero power, no headlights, power steering or engine rpms. Total black out.
I somehow managed to keep it on the road and came to a stop.
Nothing would work. Once stopped it must have went into park although I couldn't tell because all electrical was dead.
The only thing working were the hazard lights and the dome lights would come on if I opened the door.

Had to have it towed to a dealer. The driver released the parking brake with the little hidden strap next to the e-brake but the rear wheels still wouldn't roll. He had to drag it up on the flat bed.

Dealer was not able to even look at it because they could not get it in the shop and I guess have to have a special towing company come in and move it into a bay on Monday. I'm guessing the tow truck driver must have had to "shake" it off the flat bed when he arrived at the dealership.

I have never had any issues with this truck until now. Anyone have any ideas? Also the rain was pretty heavy and the roads weren't flooded but there was a lot of water on them, not enough to not be able to drive 55 mph but just throwing this out there for info.

Very disconcerting and extremely dangerous.

Really dealer can’t get dead truck into a bay. What do they do if a transmission crapsout and truck doesn’t move forward or reveverse? Same with engine not starting ? Can’t get into bay ? Me thinks you need another dealer.

Update.
They finally got it in and called me last night. Said it was the RF hub and he said there is a known issue with the upper cab brake light leaking. The water runs down and contacts the RF Hub and corrodes/shorts it out. They have to take the back seat out and he will inspect the hub for signs of water damage and if he sees any then maybe, just maybe he can get Chrysler to cover it under warranty. If not it's about a $1200 repair. The part is also on backorder.
So possibly looking at having to rent a car for a few weeks.
Doing a search I have discovered this is a major problem with these trucks. Either the brake light leaks or the window leaks and blows out the RF hub.
How this is not a safety recall is beyond me. My truck literally went all power out, completely dead in the dark at 55mph.
So frustrating.
The last Ram I owned I had purchased the extended warranty and about 2K before the warranty expired I took it in for a loud tick int he engine. After 7 weeks they gave up trying all these little fixes and put a new block in it.
Chrysler warranty department is a joke.
The last 4 vehicles I have purchased have been from this dealer, all Chrysler products. 2 Rams, a Pioneer and a Pacifica. The Rams I have discussed and the Pacifica is just a giant POS. I have already repaired the start/stop feature, added a spare tire because stow and go seats do not come with a spare and now I have to replace the front struts, rotors and pads.
I think I'm done with Chrysler. Although I really did like this 2020 Ram Hemi. I just cant get behind a company that doesn't get behind their product.

It would be a “leap”….and unlikely to be your exact problem….but it might be helpful to know it’s happened to others and how it was resolved.

I had bought a brand-new 2012 Ram 1500 and a thousand or two miles later, while driving 70 mph on the hwy …. the instrument-cluster lights “flashed” several different, unidentifiable CEL’s/MIL’s ….and the engine shut-down….
…Coasting down to about 30 mph I pulled over to the shoulder and as I came to a stop a few more CEL’s flashed…

Turning the “key” (fob) to OFF…then attempted a re-start…which was normal …it started immediately and the 100-mile drive subsequent went without issue.

I dropped it off at the selling-dealer and they kept it a few days…. and told me it was fixed.
They had recored a “harness short” where the main harness passed through the firewall at the brake master-cylinder/booster , due apparently from chafe-ing. They made a repair (which was buried behind the brake booster and not visible…so I never observed it)…. and it never again was a problem….(kept that truck for 220K miles and wrecked it.)
