Either I've gotten used to it or it's quieted down a bit. Still sounds great though. I've towed a handful of times and even with the engine screaming it's not loud in the cab. If there is any drone it's masked by my tires.

I think this is a great option. Took 45 minutes in the parking lot on my lunch break to install.

Does anybody know if the Flowmaster 50 series HD muffler is louder or quieter than the mufflex magna flow setup.

I actually just added the muflex with the magna flow about a month ago.. It is perfect for me.. It is rediculously quiet in the cab.. I was a little concerned at first but after having it for over a month now and hearing it resonate off of buildings and cars and my wife when she is pulling away I am more than satisfied. I will say this- Let a shop put it in or have a friend help- I did mine in my front yard- I had a hell of a ******* time getting the old muffler out and getting the new one lined up so everything was flush and angled properly. I had a flow master on my 02 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3 and on a couple previous cars- It droned to much for me but that could of been tip placement and angle as well. I will eventually be removing my resonator but that's a ways down the road.

I just put a spintech 3000 series on. It's a si/so 3.5" muffler. I'm loving it so far. If you look in the heavy duty section. I have a thread up with a link to my YouTube videos. I also cut the resonator off and dump behind the axel. I messed up when I order the muffler. I ordered the inlet and outlet coming out the middle. Should have gotten them with the inlet coming out the bottom and the outlet coming out the top. The shop used 2 90* bends and were able to weld everything in. No issues. Only cost me $170 and that's with the 90's costing $45 a piece.

" Rediculously quiet in the cab" is not exactly what im looking for if i am imagining what you are saying correctly. I do want it to be throaty/kinda loud but dont want that cherry bomb rasp/crack you get from super open pipes.

And im ok with some drone. Being a cc long box i imagin i can get away with a little more of an agressive muffler being the pipes are longer and im further from the exhuast tip.

Humm... Maybe a flowmaster 40 ? If they make an offset 3.5 SI/SO

THREAD RESURRECTION !!! :roflsquared:

How are you "mufflex with the magnaflow" guys liking you setup now that they have been on for a while now?

there are not to many other options out there in the same price range. I had a shop quote me $450 !! to weld in a flowmaster 50 series HD and another tell me they dont want to touch my truck....and that was a dedicated muffler shop... they can **** off then.

probably end up ordering the mufflex. just looking for a little less $$$ option if there is one.
After debating between the Mufflex Magnaflow and the Flowmaster HD 50, I rolled the dice on the Mufflex and kept the stock resonator. Have no idea which is quieter or louder but the Mufflex has got some volume to it on startup and has a nice idle IMO. In the cab I get some drone from about 1500 - 1800 rpm unloaded cruising around town. Not overpowering but it's there, you will notice it a bit especially when MDS kicks in (unless you turn it off). Get on the throttle and it will make some noise. Cruising on the highway at 120 km/hr it's pretty quiet but definitely louder than stock. I like it unloaded but if the drone increases much when I tow my TT, it may have to come off.....we'll see. I've only had it on for about a week at this point so early days yet.

Though about the Flowmaster American Thunder cat back which uses the HD50 muffler as well but was out of my price range. Sounds kick ass on YouTube though.

makes me feel a little better when it MAY possibly be to loud for some people. after all .... I had a short cherry bomb on a 1992 explorer and that thing was drony as hell and I liked it. the mufflex is such an simple install I may just roll the dice on it vs trying to find someone that can work on my truck for a reasonable price. places in my town seem expensive.

thanks for all the comments guys.

You should have got the Flowmaster direct fit replacement muffler. It's $16 more than your magnaflow and has no drone ever, even when MDS kicks in.

What direct fit did you find for the 6.4 setup? All I could find are the cat-back systems and some generic offset mufflers. But nothing truly "direct fit" like the Mufflex setup.

I ordered the Flowmaster 853558 50 Series HD 409SS muffler off Amazon for $149 at the time (now $197) and had my local muffler shop we it in for me for $60.
All the had to add was a short 3.5" sraight piece to make up the difference in length and we cut the resonator off leaving the exhaust dumped right after the axle.

I am very happy with this setup and it only cost $210.

how in the hell are your guy's shops doing it for under $100 let alone under $200.

I need to look in the next town for prices. maybe they just hate 28 year old kids with brand new 1 ton trucks. that's the impression I get form a lot of people.

Don't know but that's what it was.
A little hole in the wall place that has been here my entire life. I'm 36. I even went there before hand and he was the one who suggested I order the muffler myself because it would save me money. I ordered then showed up withe the muffler and $60.
45 min later I left and he put the $60 in his pocket. Off the books I supose. lol

I did Flowmaster Original 40 series dumped in front of the axle with 2.5 inch pipe. Love the sound and it's gotten louder since new. Wife can hear me in the house pull into our neighborhood at just over 1/4 mile away with a bunch of houses between to block the sound.

Here is a good view with no pipes hanging out the rear.

I agree it looks so much better without the ugly ass resonator hanging out the back.
