Has anyone owned both? I am very impressed with my 2500's coil spring ride & the ability to haul heavy loads. I have about 2,200lbs. of pin weight from my 5vr plus a good amount of wood in it & it takes it down about 2" in the back (basically level). I am thinking of upgrading to a 3500 HO srw. Am I going to hate the ride quality?

Get the auto leveling. I did the auto level on my drw 3500 and this thing rides like a car. Never had a drw ride so we'll

I have thought about the auto leveling but I have heard many people having issues with it. Guess that will be another thread to find out how many people are having issues.

If you already have onboard air, I don't know why they don't just make the whole front & rear suspension air ride like a semi does.

Havent seen alot of issues with the 2500/3500 rear air suspension system. Much simpler system than the half ton full air suspension system (which I would definitely stay away from)
I wish I had gotten the rear air suspension, with the extra weight of the diesel the 3500 ride ok.
I have the 6.4 tradesman 3500. Ride is pretty harsh in my opinion, compared to my 03 Cummins 2500

You should notice a bit of a difference. The 3500 is a 1 ton, has a stiffer frame, and still leaf springs in the back. But will it be bone jarring, no. I just ordered my 22 3500 with a HO. (only engine they are coming with if you order them)..... btw.... I test drove a 3500 the dealer had on the lot and it road similar to my 2500.... I will be putting 1,000 lbs of sand in the back for winter vs the 700lbs I used in my 2500 though.

Frames are the same to my knowledge.
Maybe the diesel weight makes a big difference,, rides better, I've been trying to find a safe way to add 1000 lbs in the box and leave it there.
The 3rd Gen 3500 had leafs and overloads, mine has just 1 big leaf and my tradesman is pretty stripped down, seems like the more loaded up 3500 ride better, maybe extra weight from leather seats, console and other goodies help
Maybe Im getting old

I think mine rides pretty decent for a 1 ton. Some rougher roads you get bounced a bit, but not terrible.

Agree my 21 3500 HO SRW rides much nicer than my 2020 2500 6.4. The gasser liked to have weight in the bed, much smother with several hundred pounds in it. 3500 is nice.

I am ready to get a 1 ton myself, but I am trying to hold out for a different tranny. I have heard sometime in 2022 they are going to release an 8 or 10 speed. That's interesting that they are only offering the HO now.

That’s what I was going to suggest. Back when I was shopping around for my new pick up, I looked real hard into a three-quarter ton version of my half ton limited that had the rear air ride on it but even though at this point in time I still really don’t have a reason to have a truck but that rear ride would’ve been nice so that if there ever was a point in time that came up to where I had to use that truck for a truck, I wouldn’t have to suffer from the extremely rough ride up until that time ever came up but since I decided I just didn’t need a three-quarter ton pickup, I ended up buying my half ton that has the air ride all the way around it.

Not only that, since the new body style heavy duty hadn’t come out yet, I heard there was a lot of people that wasn’t crazy about that six speed transmission so that was kind of a dealbreaker for me.

I haven’t heard about a lot of issues with the heavy duty rear air ride either but then again, that system doesn’t seem to be a very popular chosen option as well so maybe that’s part of it.

As far as the problematic four corner active level on the halfton, yeah there have been some issues but primarily that’s for the people that live way up north where it gets real cold. I live down here in southern Oklahoma and so far, almost 3 years and 35,000 miles later, I have yet to have a single problem with my air ride and if I do, I feel I was pretty wise in buying the lifetime Mopar MVP warranty just in case I do.

If you already have onboard air, I don't know why they don't just make the whole front & rear suspension air ride like a semi does.
About 95% of the semi‘s you see on the road today only have air ride on the drive axles and on the trailer axles but they have leaf springs on the steer axle. I think Freightliner had an option to where you could have a brand new truck with steer axle air ride but at least with these big trucks, you really don’t need air ride up there anyway and primarily the ones who do, are the really nice old-school trucks that people have spent a stupendous amount of money on customizations and they’ll put air ride on the front axle so that when they park it at a truck show, they can drop the suspension all the way like a low rider and set that 18 or 19 inch chrome drop bumper right down on the ground….lol.

Besides, the four corner active level on the halfton‘s is more for comfort, ease of getting in and out with the entry/exit mode, helping to achieve better fuel mileage with the aero mode when you get above a certain mile per hour and having the ability to raise the truck up for off-road clearance. Since the heavy duty‘s are more for work and sit much taller than a half ton, probably not too many people would be interested about the aero mode on something like that, nor would they be interested in the easy exit mode or the ability to raise the truck even higher than it already is which is why they probably only invested in the air ride on the back of the truck just for the auto leveling capabilities and being able to air the rear bags down for easier unloading and loading in the back of the bed and for hitching up to a fifth wheel, gooseneck or bumper-pull trailer.

I agree. I should have specified in cold climates stay away from the half ton air ride system.
Every year the first -20 day we get they are lined up in the service row.
Warm weather very few issues

I’m not sure if people are still having those issues even with the late model 19’s, 20’s and 21’s but I do know, or at least I’m pretty sure in 2018 was when they realized a lot of the problems people were having was due to the lubricant grease they put inside the compressor would get really thick and almost putty/paste-y like when cold that wouldn’t allow the valves to completely closed that lead to the pressure bleeding off.

They did come out with a supposed revised compressor, multiple part number changes, that was supposed to help, but Ive had issues with them as well

What kind of issues? The same as the ones before prior to the revised parts?
