Went to Walmart and was surprised to see the OEM Mopar oil filter is cheaper than the FRAM of apparently lesser quality. I took both filters from their packages and the bottom end rim of FRAM looks thinner than the OEM, unfortunately I lost that picture.
I'm including the pics of Mobil 1, Mopar and FRAM showing prices (Texas) and filter number:

and Shell Rotella Synthetic 5w20, Mobil 1, Mobil 1 extended performance.

My walmart has the STP for 2.97..The mopar for 9.97 and the
FRAM Ultra Synthetic Oil Filter, XG11665 (extra guard) for 10.86..The ultraguard rated for 20K oil intervals. That tough guard in your store pricier than the xguard in mine. Mine's doesn't stock the M1 filter. I wonder why these canister filters cost more than the metal cans of old. I mean there's not much to them after all. No fancy springs, valves, metal cages and cans. They didn't carry the engine air filter at my store, had to go to autozone.

I recently changed the oil and filter on mine, I got a Purolator PL36296 on Amazon for $11. It's good for up to 10K miles. I paired it with 6 qt of 5W-20 Valvoline Advanced Full Synthetic. The 5 qt jug costs $22.

With Mopar filters around $9 and Wally full synthetic around $14 for 5 quarts you can't beat a wally oil change for price. Must be a lot of ram owners around me because they run out of the 5w-20 full synthetic here from time to time. I'm running the mopar filter until the warranty expires. I bought a extra 5 quart container to do the additional quart it takes on oil changes. Cheaper than buying a single anyway. Couldn't get the cabin filter from wally, always sold out.

That's where I've been getting mine, use the Mopar filter and Mobil 1 full synthetic. Next time I need to get two 5-quart containers, I keep buying the one extra quart and it's more expensive that way. Couldn't find the cabin filter there, I think I found it at an Auto Zone.

I run pennzoil platinum, pennzoil ultra platinum, or pennzoil platinum high mileage. Goes on sale here frequently for $30CAD for 5.5L (5.8qts or so).

I have run nothing but Pennzoil Full Synthetic 5W-20 $22, and the XG filter $11, on my last 3 trucks. My 1998 Chevy had 325,000 miles, and my 2002 Dodge Ram 360 cid had 295,000 with no problems. Sticking with Pennzoil in my 2017 V6 also. My dispstic shows full with 5 quarts so that is all I have been putting in it.

Never ever buy Fram...
The Fram Ultra filter is one of the few out there with synthetic media that I've seen, all the rest have cellulose impregnated paper media which is cheap and gets hard fairly quickly especially on a long drain interval. I did find where WIX makes a synthetic media filter but it costs nearly double.

It's really a part number specific thing. Most of your drop in style oil filters by Fram are good quality. For the pentastar filters, I've never experienced one of any brand that had an issue for the 6-7k mile OCIs I'd do.

Even though I like to do my own maintenance I still have a lot of warranty left on my truck. Mopar dealers currently have a deal for 3 full synthetic oil changes for $100. I asked them if there was any additional charge for the 3.6 or the hemis and they said no , so I took the deal. The dealer is less than 5 miles away and has an express lane.

That's not bad and if the oil filter housing leaks or breaks in that 20-30k mile period, it's on them.

Why worry and skimp on filter price. OEM are not that badly priced and the filter is the life blood of your engine. Penny wise and dollar foolish!

There is some good info in the oil filter thread. Actually when everything is considered in the GM test, Fram Ultra took the first place. Spun Microglass not only filters better, the media never degrades, will outlast any oil, and allows more flow. The only downside is cost. There is no comparison between paper filtration and spun microglass. If you want oem spun microgloss, it needs to be srt filter.

Never ever buy Fram...

You have not done your research. As Burla stated Fram Ultra is one of the best filters out there now. All of Fram's other filters did not do well. ONLY Ultra did well. The OEM filters are low quality as well, unless you get the SRT.

Wallace's World has the Fram Ultra and Pennzoil Platinum in stock. Think I will go this route.
