IMG_20190705_203636.jpg IMG_20190703_133749.jpg 2017 Outdoorsman, has a 2.5, 1.75 RC lift level. Running 275 65r20 at/3. Great tire for road and snow but the truck is no longer primary transportation so it's time to go bigger, more aggressive. I did have a 2014 with the same level kit and I ran 325 60r20 BFG K02. That truck however had the sport wheels which are wider. I am not sure if a 325 would sit on these wheels very well. Any how, question is, would a 33x12.5 look big enough or should I go 35x

Those tires are already 34s. Definitely jump to a 35"

There's alot of options in 35x12.5x20 which will fit. I have these wheels and they are 20x8, a bit narrow for a 12.5 wide tire but since it's not your daily drive abnormal wear won't be such a big concern.

I wan 315 70 17s on 17x7 stock wheels and they did fine. I jumped to 20s for daily use but keep the 315s if I end up taking a trip to the offroad park.

If those are 20x8 wheels then you’re technically not supposed to put 12.5 wide tires on them...just something to keep in mind...

I stayed with the stock size 20" KO2s but should have done 35's. Next time.

I went from a 275 65 20 general grabber at2 to 33x12.5r20 on stock rims, wanted the more aggressive look, I have 20x8,

2.5 front level, 1.5 rear spacer and 1.5 body lift
Tires I went with are wildpeak mt01'sdbce95fbd1bc272ac703cbc634a011c1.jpg8d76950599636e8d1e75e37e6b74e4ce.jpg539dbda2e4443b06f6e154861b5a05ac.jpg

Some of the 35x12.50s out there are listed as needing a 9" or wider wheel per the manufacturer's guidelines. I tried to get Discount Tire to mount some to my 8" wide stock wheels and they informed me of this and showed me the specs for each tire. I ended up with a metric size because of this.

Also, get the 35s OP

Exactly

That and I personally think on a 20x8 with 35x12.5 there’s too much sidewall bulge for my liking. You can tell the tire wants at least a 9” wide wheel the way they look together.

Quick question, what are the dangers of running a 12.5 on the stock 20x8 rims? I have a 2014 ram express with a 4 inch lift. Would a 35x12.5r20 rub the upper control arm with stock rims? Or would I need spacers ?

There is nothing wrong with running a 12.50 on an 8 inch wheel. It has been done for years. Even ran 33x12.50s on 7inch rally's back in the day.

Will the tires wear faster, probably. How much, who knows.

Most factory wheels where only 7 and rarely 8 inch wide till the early 2000s. Countless number of cars, trucks, SUVs out there running 12.50s on narrow wheels.

What diameter where your 7” wide wheels?

20x8s shouldn’t be getting a 35x12.5s per manufacturer specs. I think it’s sifferent when they’re 17s though bc there’s more sidewall to work with.

The manufacturer's specs on tires are just like they are on anything else. Recommendations to cover their ass. If you use it outside the listed specs they are not liable, as if they would stand behind it under "normal " conditions anyways.

Run whatever you want and feel safe doing. I have personally ran 12.50s on 7-8 wheels for hundreds of thousands of miles on various vehicles. 1/2 ton to 1 tons, blazers, Armada, jeep grand Cherokee. Pulling trailers, running highways , off road, dirt roads, winter, summer you name it.

And yes some of them were 20 inch .

Like I said before, will they wear faster , yes. Are they any less safe , that is up to you. No one has yet provided anything to prove otherwise to me. Just like the air pressure in your tires. Run what you want they are yours. You are going to buy more no matter what.

Well discount lol. They tried telling my I couldn’t run my load range E mt tire on my 2500 lol. But it could go on a power wagon. They just see what computer tells em and it’s the “law” to them. I had them put my truck as a “power wagon” just to get them to balance 1 tire that was vibrating :banghead: I never go back to discount

33 or 35 is up to you but remember this, tires can be small investments we do every 1-5 years, it'll be in your best interest to take care of them for as long as they'll stay in the vehicle. From experience you can run 12.5" wide tires on 7" or 8" wide wheels but they will wear down funny and faster than they will if they were mounted on the appropiate size wheel. Follow the tire size recommendation and you'll have a better overall experience.

My suggestions from experience as well sell your stock wheels and use that money to fund aftermarket wheels with the correct witdh and offset. I don't believe in wheel spacers and i don't believe in skinny wheels with big tires anymore. Been there done that and the results were always less than desirable. I understand sometimes we put up with them because budget constraints or just because we choose to be cheap :) i've been cheap several times and almost always have ended up paying more for something i could have afforded cheaper, had i taken the time to go with the more expensive approach right form the beginning instead of spreading out the amounts i was paying repeating the mistakes 2-3 times until finding a middle common ground solution i liked and i was finally happy with. Pay once cry once that's all i can say.

Good luck.

Good stuff. I’m on the set of tires a year program. Although mine see more rocks than the average dd truck.
