alright well my 97 ram 2500 has the 5.9l 360 v8. I was on my way back from Virginia and gas light popped on being on the highway i had to drive few more miles to get gas. i got gas and then 5 minutes later going down the high way the truck started to surge and almost shut off then oil light came on. i put oil in made sure it was right on the dip stick and drove it back home. anytime i got up to around 65 the truck would start to surge and run bad again. so i put seafoam in the gas to treat the gas cause it was all the symptoms of bad gas and i changed the oil just in case. well i cranked it today and now the motor sounds like a tractor and has a small tick noise with the tractor noise. i was looking over the motor theirs no leaks but the center of the exhaust manifold on the passenger side started leak a small amount of high smoke. and sounds like its running at a high idle.

Im completely lost with whats going on. no check engine light is on no oil lights are on and everythings running normal on the gauge cluster.

Clogged fuel filter? Surging sounds like it's starving for fuel.

The ticking/tractor noise may be related (sputtering because it's not getting sufficient fuel).

You might have better luck posting this in the appropriate section. This, the 4th Gen section is for 2009 & up.
A better description or a video would help, also. A tractor sound could be lifters ticking from low oil pressure, something dropped inside the engine while changing the oil, or many other things.
How low was the oil the first day, when you added it? Did you run it on the highway with no oil? That would be why it's smoking and sounding like it's coming apart.

Good luck.

I would definitely check fuel filter. If gas got that low could have picked up junk in tank.

Don't bother with the fuel filter, it is attached to the fuel pump inside the tank so it is not easily checked or replaced.

The sound you describe is probably because one or more of the lifters are not getting enough oil pressure to stay pumped up.

Hi Zeustheram,

Check the compression in the two cylinders that are around the area that you see the exhaust coming from. You may have a blown head gasket. Not a hard fix just takes a lot of patience and time. Had a 71 Fury that did the exact thing you are describing and it was the head gasket. If you are still driving it keep a CLOSE eye on your oil, if you start getting a milky looking substance on the end of the oil dip stick stop driving it and get that head gasket changed out because you then getting moisture in your oil and you will kill the engine if you keep driving it.
JMHO....Hope you get it sorted.
