So the change oil soon light came on on the 2015 ram 3500 tradesman diesel.
Now we have changed the oil in the past but for whatever reason it took literally 4 hours yesterday.
First could not figure out how to reach oil filter to change. It will not drop out the bottom and cannot reach it from the top because you have to remove the air breather and turbo intake tube to access from the top.
Does anyone have an easier solution to access the filter? 7 thousand miles will be here sooner than later. Thanks

Get yourself a screw in plug for the oil filter, they sell them at places like Geno's Garage. Get to the oil filter through the front wheel well.

Stuff a small towel in the cavity below the filter , just enough for it to rest on when undone . As mentioned get yourself a screw on plug for the filter , Amazon or Genos . Screw on the cap ,they have a ring to get a hold of ,and pull it out thru the fender . Let it rest on the towel that's filled the cavity while you screw on the cap . Been doing mine that way since my 2014 was new . If you are one that likes to pre-fill the filter, then do that , put the cap on ,and slip it back thru the fender , let it rest on the towel remove the cap . Raising it up in there can be done with one hand ,it has no where to go but up , and screw it back in , it takes a little practice ,but it's not that difficult . Might take a couple try's before you get it started screwing it back on . I did the intake tube one time ,that was enough to cure me of doing it that way . Couple times doing it thru the fender , and it becomes easy .

Couple tips , one turn you tire all the way to the left , gives you a bit more room to reach in there . I use a filter strap to loosen ,and tighten . I use the Donaldson filters they are smooth on the bottom . If you are using Mopar or fleetguard get yourself a filter socket that fits on the bottom , and a flex-head 3/8" ratchet .

As far as the rear fuel filter get yourself a piece of clear plastic hose , I believe 3/8" ID , and loosen the valve ,and drain the filter in a bucket before removal , give a minute to drain out . I would think you could find a YouTube video on both the fuel ,and oil filter removals that I have explained . Same with the front fuel filter , that one takes a 5/8" ID hose to drain .

I always used a big ziploc freezer bag and a rag. Break the filter loose until oil runs down the side into the bag. When it’s done dripping I wiped the filter then undo the filter with the bag… filter drops into the bag… zip the bag and remove. It was nice that stick shift trucks didn’t have transmission lines in the way.

For the rear filter, attach the hose and drain. Then break the filter loose and more will drain out. Note: This job sucked balls when it was below -20.

With the exception of the manual transmission, I don’t miss this truck.

+1 on this

Worst freakin' oil change experience, by the way, but manageable with the right gadgets. I splurged for the Geno's stuff as crash68 mentioned and it made it a lot easier and no mess.

My son is/was considering a diesel truck to replace his aging 2007 2500, until I mentioned this thread and other related maintenance issues.
