What tranny to go behind the carb motor? the 46re will not like it one bit.
So 10k is about right say $6000 for the motor another $3000 for a built auto trany, add a G for other stuff then add taxes.
if you go carb you could easily adapt a 727 for alot less than 3k
heck you can find a used one for less than 500, say you stick 1000 into a full rebuild, your only at 1500
On craigslist (if you trust it) you can find 318s, 340s and 360s ready to run for a good deal! with a trans your less than 5k, just need to install it.
Also, say you dont do a stroker, if power is what your after you could do a supercharger on your stock motor for more power
if it were me, i keep the truck the way it is, save the money, buy a mid 70s truck down south that came factory with the 360 or even a 383/440
you could be in a truck about 5-7k but then you have classic BBM power
Lots of ideas, if buying a truck is out of the question, and you want to use your existing truck, id suggest a supercharger...i think vortec makes a kit for our trucks...(maybe??)
how fast you want to go is only determined by how much you want to spend on it!
if money was no object...id throw a cummins in it, with a big turbo....run 50+ pounds of boost with a water/**** injection
heck go nuts...135 lbs of boost in a first gen....this is my dream truck for a DD!!
