I have a 1995 ram 1500, it has the 5.9l magnum but been bored and stroked out to a 408 stroker with a lot of goodies. Currently it is running with a mopar performance ecm, but being OBD 1 still there isn't much I can do as far as tuning goes. I know I can swap in an OBD 2 ecm and wiring, what would be needed with that besides harness and the computer? Will the gauges and trans still work alright (built 46rh).

There is also the piggy back ecm route, I have seen people talk about the perfect power SMT-6/SMT-8. Anyone have any experience using one of these? I am not sure where I would go to get it tuned.

Your 2 most cost effective routes are OBD2 swap or carb. OBD2 is doable and at minimum you’ll need pcm and engine harness. 96/97 parts truck would make the whole thing easier

On my 05 silverado i swapped in a 6.0 year later installed a low compression 408ci stroker assembly made an extra 40hp and about 45 torque..a year later installed a magnuson supercharger made an extra 180 hp at 10psi over the stock 6.0

id go obd2 man makes it easier to add more mods down the road
