I have a 2015 ram sport 1500 with 37's and a 6"lift....i did some off-roading a few days ago didn't really get stuck but was just blowing snow/mud around....not long eaither... and on the lcd cluster it said something like 4x4 reduced power overheat or something...it happened a few times ... the dealership tried to reenact the issue but couldn't and said it could be due to the big tires im running...i mean ive been running 37's for 2 years now and haven't had issues...any thoughts? they found a error code but it was probably what poped up on the dash.

The clutches in your tcase where getting overheated and the message was to inform you the tcase was essentially working at reduce capability to “engage” the front since the clutches were hot. Hope that makes sense.........

This is a great example of the glaring defect of the BW 44-44

Had this happen to me twice

There are more than a couple of threads discussing the BW44-44 or “auto” tcase, good info on how the tcase actually works.

In a word, yes. Nothing to worry about in a sense that something is wrong........the clutches will wear out just like the clutch for a manual tranny, and will wear faster if they keep overheating.

The computer wasn’t “saving your ass” ‘cause it wasn’t reducing power, it was just a pop up telling you the clutches are overheating and they are working at a reduced ability as a result.

If you were to keep working the tcase you’d actually fry the clutches.

In the end in simplest terms you could say it was the computer warning you to ease up a bit and let the clutches cool down.
