So the other day I was playing around on a steep wet slippery hill to test my truck traction and 4x4 out. I tried going up the hill it 2wd dug a hole spinning. Tried again in 4 high made it up the hill still spinning hard but still made it tried again in 4 low again made it but when I tried going back to 4 high it took a vary long time to get out of 2 low I tried truck in neutralI tried in gear slow roll forward and back and once it did release was a a hard bang sound. Is there a trick on getting out of 4 low?

So now you are good?

Transfer cases need to be operated a few times a year to stay lubricated, the more you use them the less you will hear a bang when you engage them. Always been like that, they are all the same. About every three mos I just engage mine and drive around the bock. I don't go around turns on dry pavement though, not even in 4 high. Try doing it like 5 times and let us know if sharpness goes away.

In and out of 4low I always use neutral.

I do engage mine about twice a year to lube up but normally only 4 high not typically 4 low. I have not tried 4 low sense I had the issue

It's up to you, I understand there is risk, might get stuck. If you do it do it when you are on the first day of a vacation so you have time to get it fixed.

You need to have the transmission in neutral. Rolling slowly under 5 mph is best...but you can make the shift at a stop.

Shifting from 4low to 4hi with the transmission in gear is a huge issue

You may want to go out and try 4low shift.

4low uses a different set of gears.

Again. Put transmission in neutral. Slowly rolling under 5mph shift to 4 low.

You can do it stopped...but much easier with the roll. IN NEUTRAL

So I did go out and try 4 low in the drive way in neutral and it seamed to work fine shifted smooth and quiet. So not sure what happens the other day it got hung up and would not free up but now is working fine might have to put it in 4 low more often to lube up 4 low if they are different gears
