Thank you for demonstrating that there are still some people who are capable of independent thought and have rational and critical thinking skills.

Many of the responses on this thread have me worried for society. If you think about it, there are a lot of similarity in this thread to what is currently going on in with our society and our political system.

With the introduction of the BW 44-44 Ram was able to change the long standing definition of 4wd Lock to something that isn't the same as the common definition understood and used by the people. Ram is able to get away with this change, since there is no accountability in the industry, and no one to hold them to a higher standard.

It's a small change that most people won’t notice, since most people don't care or use their trucks in a manner that it will be an issue. However there are defiantly still people affected by this deception. When these people find out they've been lied to, and discover there is a fatal flaw with the system, they still can't do anything to change the system, because they are too small of a minority, and even when the try to show the public that facts about the flaws of the system, the people are too set in their ways to change their minds. Just look at some of the excuses people use in this thread:

- "My truck works fine, I don't notice any issues, it must be your truck that is defective"

- "My truck works fine, for how I use it, the issues you have are minor stop complaining about it"

- "I've been a proud Dodge man for years, my Dodge truck is the best, all the other trucks, are junk"

- "I want the 4wd auto setting, because I don't know how, or I'm just too lazy to properly use the 4wd Lock setting"

- "My truck locks up in 4wd Lock, it says so right on the button, Ram wouldn't lie to us "

I could go on, but you get the point. The sad thing about this whole thing, is that there is a really simple solution. The BW 44-44 could be programmed to actually lock up in 4wd Lock, and 4wd Low, and still retain the 4wd on demand setting of 4wd Auto. Or a simple description of how the 4wd system works, with a re-labeling of the buttons, would inform buyers that need a true 4wd to spend their money elsewhere. This would keep everyone happy!

Unfortunately it doesn't happen, since Ram is a corporation, with the sole purpose of making money. Someone within the corporation figured they could make more money, by making the truck more car like, sacrificing the usefulness and capability the truck. Ram is selling more trucks than ever, so there is no incentive to change. People are too distracted by everything else in their lives to even care or notice.

All I can do is try and learn from my $46,000+ mistake, and try and educate as many people as I can, to prevent them from making the same mistake I did. I know I can't change the system, all I can do is try to live within it the best I can.

There is nothing to fix, it locks, as everyone has pointed out. You bring up a valid point though, society is getting dumber and dumber. You have no reason to need it in 4lock at idle, regardless of what you think. If you want it, cool, but you should be in 4wd before you need it, not after . Dodge won't fix something that's not broken.

Are you just trolling all of us on here, or do you seriously, do not understand the issue? I need a 4wd system that locks up as soon as I select 4wd lock, not after the rear tires slip, or do I need it to disengage when I let of the throttle. It doesn't matter if I select 4wd Lock before I need it or not, the fact remains, that it doesn't lock and remained locked up at all times when 4wd Lock, or 4wd Low is selected.

OK, so give me a reason why it needs to unlock every time you get off the throttle? One reason? Is it so you can leave your truck in 4wd while you are driving in a dry parking lot?
So by your logic if my truck is in 4wd when I go into deep snow just never stop? Just bounce off of trees and rocks and whatever since when you stop your truck it reverts back to 2wd just because?
I have given you reasons, other people have given you reasons as to why the clutch should stay engaged while stopped, you care to weigh in with a reason as to why it should disengage at idle?

You should be a RAM engineer.

Obviously, they have their reasons why they are using this system the way they are. He vast majority have no issues at all. I use the hell out of mine in various road and off-road conditions and it's performed as it should. Never had an issue. All I've seen is a handful of people who have had issues opposed to the rest who haven't.

You don't like the design so you are complaining about it. By design, it's working as it should.

Yes, they have their reasons, trucks are selling like hotcakes and all sorts of people buy the things who have no business buying trucks. Most of these people have no idea when to use 4wd so putting a system like this is fine for the masses but certain people it just flat out work for.
The problem is they do not make any effort to explain the difference between the two. To a person hopping into 2 different trucks on a test drive you see 3 of the buttons are the same and a 4 auto setting is added. That person is going to think those 2 trucks operate the same but the one has a 4 auto setting so it should be better. They make no effort to explain the difference until after the fact.

That's a pretty judgemental thing to say. I sure hope you have something that backs who should and shouldn't buy trucks lol

How do you know most of these people do not know how or when to use 4wd?

You think you do, but that's just because you're doing it wrong. Show me a video of someone getting stuck in what you deem to be "4lo worthy" , using the bw44-44 case. I've seen zero, and can't reproduce myself. Being used as intended, with traction control on , and 4lo or 4lock enabled. If its in mud, they need mud tires, if its in light snow , they need all season tiress. If its in heavy, thick snow (more than 8") , they need snow tires (or mud) . You show me that, and then you can say it sucks or doesn't work. Until then, you're argument is invalid, and flawed. I can show you plenty NOT getting stuck.

Mainly because I see the type of people who drive them around metro Detroit, in a rural setting those people generally know, around here half of the people don't even know what engine their truck has.

Wow, so essentially there is no reason to have the transfer case disconnect at idle, but you need to get different tires to compensate for that. I've said before mine was an outdoorsman, it had snowflake certified tires on it that had less than 10000 miles on them, but apparently it was my tires that got me stuck, not the transfer case overheated message.

I have to agree with you a bit here. Many people are getting a false sense of security. Because they are ignorant. That's not really dodges fault though.

18 inches of snow needs more than your snowflake tires lol. And yes, if your going off-road you need to be prepared and equipped. Why would you go off-road with incorrect tires ?

Here are some bald tires in 8 inches in 2wd need me to show you how it's done ?

Did you have the 6.4 bed in your outdoorsman. On another note I think I'm going to need more beer and popcorn

Ok, so which tires should I have? You live in Minnesota correct? Should I have had mud tires? All seasons? BFG all terrain KO2's are snowflake tires and people use them all the time for off road because they are amazing in the snow, thr silent armors were an amazing tire in the snow.

If all the evidence on this site, isn't enough to convince you of the drawbacks of the BW 44-44 t-case, there isn't anything more I can do. Maybe someone who is trained with the skills required to teach special needs people with low intelligence may be able to help you, but I'm certainly not that person.

I live in Texas , I run open country m/t and I use 4auto in the mud almost exclusively. I also use them in the north when traveling and I can't get stuck, at least not with normal amounts of snow / ice.

It doesn't matter what you use in snow, as long as its rated. I guess technically those tires do in fact suffice, but not for 18 inches of snow man. All I'm saying is if you have the correct equipment , use traction control , and ensure your gear selection is right , a little snow should never cause you any issues. If you were spinning tires enough to overheat your tvase then traction control was off, which is the wrong way to use it. If you DID all of those things, you may have a legitimate issue with your case.

If you're in a low 4wd gear and spinning traction control is off already. In which case , you just got a bad spot, it happens. I personally wouldn't be pushing through 18 inches of snow without some nobs!

Coming from the guy smart enough to buy a truck and not knowing what it has for equipment? Yeah... I'm special needs, I didn't blow 50k

Moreover, there is a healthy mix of happy and unhappy people in these threads. This isn't even 1% of .000000000001% of the people that have the tcase. So yeah, means nothing.

... Have you actually driven in snow? Traction control cuts engine power to the point where you can't move sometimes, if it is made to go in mud and snow and everything why would they have an off button? By the way, since I see you haven't even had your truck for a month you don't have a whole lot of experience with it and those tires but they are one of the worst rated tires on snow and ice.

I will say this though, as I'm really not biased. If you live somewhere where 18inches of snow is common, and you purchased a ram.... I could potentially see an issue with how this might perform for you. But the needs of the far far outweigh the needs of the many. I'm not saying the case is epic, nor am I saying it's the best . For what it is though, a clutch driven , locking 4wd system, its quite good.

TC can be disabled in 2wd, and in 4 auto, or 4 lock, TC and ESC can be disabled.

The government also dictates a lot of these mandates. At least we have the ability to turn TC off as a lot of cars can't!
