Looking at adding 5 inch black exhaust tips. Is the inlet measurement 3 that comes stock? I have a 2015 ram 1500 HEMI Big Horn. Also, any recommendations on brand?

2015 Crewcab rocking Moe's Performance 5" exhaust tips DIY black by yours truly. If you have stock exhaust the split tails are 2.25. They originally came chrome but I eventually had other plans. Been on the truck since 2017. :head3:

These were added by the first owner and I really love them. They’re Carven matte black 5” double walled tips. Not sure what they cost but fit the bumper outlets nicely. Good luck!

I have the 5" Carvens too and the branding is tucked up under my bumper enough to not see it. You have to get up close and lean in to even get a glimpse of it.

Here's a good side-by-side of the OEM's and the Carvens for comparison:

They were $200 for the pair.

Mufflex. $199 for the pair I believe and they have the same rolled edge as the factory tips. They look OEM, just bigger, with no name on them. Lol. I had mine powder coated black. Love them. Check em out.

If you order the Carven, they are direct replacement.

The inlet and length have been figured out for you.

Also, check out B2 fabrication they are on a different website. Similar cost as carven.

Ok, so I know this thread is a couple of weeks old...but I just finished adding some black 5” tips today and wanted to share my thoughts. I loved the 5” look from seeing others on here, but thought the direct fit options were a bit expensive for what they were. I did want to be able to go back to stock if needed though. So I made up my own using tips from ebay, exhaust adapters, and flat band clamps. Essentially, this becomes a bolt on solution.

Most of the time was researching the right sizes and such (plus some trial and error), once I had that the actual install was pretty quick. In total, I’m about $75 for these versus the $200+ for direct fits. I also like that the tip itself is longer versus the adapter pipe. Overall, I’m really happy with the results!

If folks are interested, I can certainly post part numbers and links. Some pictures below, including some comparisons off and on the truck.

Here are the tips: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Pair-Exhau...-/283092362782?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286

Here are the reducers (3” OD to 2.5” ID): https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p...ust-adapter-2-1-2-id-x-3-od-548583/10239112-P

Here are the band clamps (2.5”): https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p...ign=20210601_A_EC_TX_PKEDUP &utm_content=ITEM

Use coupons at advance auto to get the prices down, the 20% off are usually available. Also, both parts are available at O’Reilly Auto if those are more convenient in your location or have them in stock.

The band clamps are key vs a standard clamp, because the stock tip has a spherical ball and socket receiver. The band clamp allows you to ensure a tight seal and as you tighten it down, it molds to the ball socket. Without them, there just isn’t enough engagement on the reducer and stock pipe to get a good fit.

Initial feeling on the tips is that the quality seems really good, especially for the price. Won’t know for sure on the finish until they are on for a bit, but it seems really solid to start. I hope this is helpful!!

So you didn’t cut the rounded portion off the OEM exhaust just used the reducer to get the fit onto the rounded portion?

Is there a way to get a pic of that how it fits over?

This is a great solution at less than half the price.

Do the 5” tips just look better or do they enhance the exhaust sound at all? Also, they don’t rattle against the bumper at all do they?

Correct, I wanted to leave everything so it could go back to stock if needed, plus I needed the overall length. So I used the belt clamp, because the two bolts adapt the fitting to each respective side (reducer and stock ball adapter) for a tight seal and fit. The reducer and the ball have a very small engagement (where a single bolt clamp doesn’t work as well...tried it, seemed ok, but didn’t trust it). Here is a close up picture where you can see how the clamp fit itself around the ball adapter. Let me know if any other pictures would help!

Definitely no rattle against the bumper, there is a small gap and they don’t really move. I don’t think it is louder per say, but I do think it sounds better overall. Could be an early placebo effect (or cause I ran without tips for a couple of days while I found the right parts [emoji38]) but it sounds a bit deeper as compared to the 4”.
